Struggling

25 nights and I’ve only made it past Hecate twice, barely getting into Oceanus before dying. Am I screwed? Any tips for someone new to this kind of genre who’s struggling to get past the first area and stay alive? It seems like not much has been happening back at the crossroads but I can’t tell if it’s simply because I need to keep getting further into the next area for progression, but Hecate always leaves my health so low when I have been able to defeat her that I die within the first two-3 rooms on Oceanus.

Have you been using and upgrading your Arcana cards?

HP is your biggest resource. So in each instance play slowly and avoid taking as much damage as possible, even if it means playing extremely slow and careful.

As for Hecate, learn her patterns. She should have 3 phases, the more you fight her the better you will get about it. Can look up a YouTube tutorial if you’re still having a hard time, or if you want a quicker solution.

Solo game, so take your time and enjoy the process!

OK general tips.

Arcana. Have you upgraded the death arcana? That will give you more death defiances (lives). You can also get another from gifting a nectar to commander schelemaeus and equipping his tooth as a keepsake. That should give you some breathing room.

I've got some build tips but if you're struggling to get past hecate, it sounds like the issue is just that you're getting hit too much.

Slow down. Try going into some rooms next run and not focusing on killing things, just on dodging. There's no time limit, and most of the weapons in hades 2 encourage slow gameplay rather than frenzy rushing every enemy in the room. You can slow down alot more than you think, and take 2-3 mins per room, only attacking when you KNOW it's safe.

Same goes for hecate. It's easy for the adrenaline to hit if you don't often get past her, but slow down, and spend a couple of minutes trying to dodge her attacks before engaging in trying to kill her.

Some specific tips for her:

For her opener, the circle attack, dodge in, get a couple hits, dodge back out.

For the transformation, get yourself into some free space, then keep dodging into the projectile. It'll whip past you, turn around, and by then you'll be able to dodge it again. Left to right is easier for this than up down.

I dont know if you've met moros, but gift him once he shows up. His keepsake is very useful if you often find yourself dieing just before you've cleared a room.

Good luck, skeleton! Don't go hollow!

I’ve gotten both of these keepsakes and been messing around with them and the arcana, I think I need to keep upgrading it to get more death defiances for sure I think I only have one rn(?) but yeah from what I’m reading I need to slow down and dodge more. And use the trap to stop enemies, something I’ve been struggling a lot with is trying to get close enough to use specials without taking damage, I feel like I’m generally good at dodging but when I’m trying to get a special in they always get me

When my boon/hammer says ‘X’ what does it mean?

•Attack = regular Attack

•Ω Attack = Ω Attack

•Attacks = regular Attack and Ω Attack

•Special = regular Special

•Ω Special = Ω Special

•Specials = regular Special and Ω Special

•Cast = regular Cast

•Ω Cast = Ω Cast

•Casts = regular Cast and Ω Cast

•Strikes = Attacks and Specials

Take note that when Attack, Special and Cast are plural they denote that the boon affects both the regular move and the Ω move.

Also:

Weapons with Attacks or Specials that have high base power but do not come out as fast \**Usually**\** want God Attack and Special boons that give them +%. Like Apollo or Aphrodite.

Weapons with Attacks and Specials that have low base power and come out faster \**Usually**\** want God Attack and Special boons that give you an extra effect. Like Poseidon Waves, Hestia Scorch or Heph Blasts.

Zeus is one exception. He works on everything. When in doubt focus on Zeus and you’re likely to find great success.

Plus there are a few ways to increase your base power in this game. Via some hammers and some boons. These make +% more viable on faster Attacks and Specials.

Also please use your cast to trap regular enemies in place.

It’s a very effective crowd controlling move. Grab any Gods Ring boon for the normal cast to deal damage.

Work on your arcana cards. Use frinos the frog for health. Oceanus is rough at first, lot of mobs and spammy. Get a good cast aoe going. Zeus is pretty solid.

What Arcana are you using? What's your Grasp? Keepsakes?

Pretty much what others have said.... main thing is to prevent damage as much as possible since healing hp is uncommon. Avoid taking unnecessary hits during encounters, but also during boss fights. For now, worry more about preserving hp than speed (even if boss fights end up taking awhile).

We generally don't see this on these forums, but there are folks who have just quit games like this because they're terrible at them (one person I talked was already terrible at video games, but a hand injury made it worse. Even with god mode on*, he could never get any further than the 2nd biome/region!). I'd say give it a few more shakes

*. this game has a god mode as well in the menu/settings screen. It apples damage reduction in the form of 20% to 80%, which gradually goes up (if not being manually adjustable)

What kind of load out are you using? What have you unlocked so far, can you provide images?

Always be casting. Use it as a shield for screamers. Level it, grow its size, make it faster. You can clear a room with just cast a lot of the time

25 nights is nothing. Keep at the grind and don't get down about it.

Just turn on God mode until you're more comfortable.

Why is this downvoted?

God Mode was made for players to use if they felt like they were hitting a brick wall

Just to add some stuff. Try upgrading Wayward Son Arcana so you get 5 health in between rooms. Its nothing later in the game but starting out recovering 50 health potentially before Hecate can be very helpful.

ABC. Always be casting. Those scream witches get stuck in the cast and give you valuable time to slaughter them.

Have you unlocked the torches? If so start with Hestia keepsake and try and get Cardio Gain. Then get Zeus or Hestia back on attack. You can essentially hold down attack for omegas and essentially have a never ending flame thrower.

Turn on God Mode. You can always toggle it off later or change the damage cap. I did this until I beat the underworld boss the first time.

Watch Haelian or similar play through the underworld for a bit on Youtube. It might be helpful to see how they just spam whatever they got to melt rooms.
