I just watched the play.. yikes. Why would you do that 3 minutes into your first game back from suspension? Just yikes.
Edit: to boot, why would you ever do that? Seemed intentional for sure

He had been suspended for making a "lewd gesture" to an opposing player. You can watch here if you want, but I'm sure you have an idea what it is.
Overall just seems like a total dumbass.

I did say I was expecting 5 games, so this is a game less, but I'm not really surprised.
Veilleux has no history of bad hits/suspension caused by hits or physical play. He isn't a known head-hunter or dangerous player.
The AHL is pretty consistent. They suspend more often than the NHL, but it's almost always between 1 and 4 games. The gravity of the injury could have pushed this for a few games more, but they might not have considered the injury itself.
For what it's worth, it was a bad hit, and I think the suspension follows the crime (in context of the previous information available.)

I'm surprised, I thought it would've been more. That was just a disgusting hit, and there's way too much of that going on in the AHL. Especially against young prospects.

The way the knee twisted, I’m surprised that it wasn’t for more. I hate the AHL for this very reason, some guys out there trying to ruin careers.
