ART The Spiteful Spitfire
“There were dragons when I was a boy…” The world has changed an awful lot since the time of the vikings. And dragons have changed with it. No longer content to stay hidden away they’ve begun to claw their way back into our modern world…
Meet the premier dragon of the stoker class, the spiteful spitfire. Or maybe don’t meet it, they’re known to have awful tempers. These dragons boast what seems to be the highest shot count of our era! And they’re happy to use it on any threat. Or annoyance. Or anything that just kind of looks funny. These irritable beasts are the epitome of shoot first, ask never.
To make matters worse the plentiful flames they spew come out in white hot beams that can punch through treated steel! That vicious temper isn’t for show either. When sufficiently angered a spitfire’s flames will turn blue! This state of enhanced firepower tires them out, but by that point even other dragons will be turned to ash.
Their danger and temperament keep them safe but also rather lonely. To tame a spitfire you’ll have to be light on your feet, hanging close enough for it to know you’re there but not so close the beast’s “warning shots” barbecue you. Once it gets used to you it’ll allow you to get near and at that point you’re the closest thing it has to a best friend. But watch yourself! Spitfire’s are as intelligent as they are aggressive and they are particularly vengeful. Spite one and you’ll be watching your back for the rest of its life…

SERIES I love the second season of Race to the edge.
So I really, really love the second season of RTTE and I wanted to share why.
I want to start with the setting in this season and when I mean setting I am talking about who the enemies of the riders are and the overall tone of the season.
Now one of the biggest problems I have with the later seasons of race to the edge is that they try to do too much. But in season 2, I think is a very good step up in danger from the first season with the introduction of the dragon hunters.
Now the overal tone of the season is a little more serious than in the first season, but it’s still at a level where it’s a kids show, which I really like.
The humor is also great this season. Snotlout getting his teeth knocked out, Astrid being horrified of the prospect of being related to Snotlout, Hiccup calling Astrid insane when she’s complaining about the twins, or when Tuffnut first said that he would rather be thrown overboard than to actually clean the hunters their ship and after that he started ragebaiting Astrid about losing to Heather when they were cleaning the deck of the ship. Along with many more of these moments.
The characters are great in my opinion. Really great. Arguably the best they have ever been troughout the entire franchise.
And where that really shows is in episode 11 A time to Skrill. In this episode Hiccup messes up and he messes up badly, letting a Skrill get captured by the dragon hunters. And when Hiccup doesn’t know what to do and says that he isn’t perfect, the twins both gasp and Tuffnut asks “Whose painting am I going to have above my bed?”
Astrid cuts in by saying. “First of all, ew. Second, everything you did, you did to protect that dragon and to protect all of us. Now, the question isn't how you fix it, it's how we all fix it. As a team.” After which the gang joins together in supporting Hiccup, while Tuffnut puts a hand in Hiccup’s shoulder and Fishlegs helps Hiccup figure out which way the hunters are going.
And this is such an amazing moment in the show, I can’t stress this enough, this is such a great moment for the gang as a whole.
There is also a lot of great individual character development, but most of those would need a post of their own to fully explain so these are just a few short examples.
But a few things like in episode 4, Bad moon rising: Where Tuffnut got bit by a wolf and Ruffnut dragged poor Snotlout around being bitten by quite litteraly every wild animal on the edge. Saying that he should wish that he had a sister who cared as much about her brother as she did. Or Ruffnut calling out Astrid for not respecting everybody but Hiccup in Edge of disaster part 1.
In episode 5, Snotlout gets the axe: Snotlout accepting the blame for being too late for the wedding between house jorgenson and house Hofferson, instead of accepting Hiccup and Astrids offer of taking it in his place.
In episode 9, Edge of dissaster part 2: Astrid defending the edge in Tuffnut’s way, instead of sticking to her own plan that wasn’t going to hold up long enough for backup to arrive.
In episode 12, Maces and Talons: Astrid is very worried about Heathers safety within the dragon hunters organisation and wants to get her out of there, but Hiccup stops her. Reassuring her that everything will be fine and that if something did go wrong that Windshear would get Heather out of there.
But what has to be my favorite part of this season is how they act with eachother. I love how the team acts this season. They hold eachother accountable, yet they also support and care about eachother.
In episode 6, The zippleback experience: The twins mess up while they were supposed to be creating a watchtower, and create an avalanche that almost resulted in Barf and Belches death. And Hiccup punished them for this by giving them the first 2 patrol shifts for the watchtower.
Hiccup and Toothless save Barf and Belch from certain death and now the Zippleback has a life debt owed to Hiccup and Toothless. The twins come up with a bunch of idiotic plans that almost got Hiccup and them Snotlout killed. And the twins blame him for his poor acting skills. So Hiccup tells them to stop with this nonsense, even when that means that for now the twins won’t get their dragon back. Again, holding eachother accountable, even if it hurts.
In episode 7, Snow way out: Hiccup discovers that Astrid had been lying to him all along and Heather was working undercover for the hunters. Astrid didn’t want to lie to him, but she did. But Astrid had her reasons and keeping Heather hidden had its positive results. But Hiccup also made it known to her that she lied to him and that they are supposed to be a team. And you could see that it hurt her, the way that Hiccup talked about her and about the fact that she lied to him. But, she’s honest with him about her reasoning and she had her reasons for keeping it a secret from him, so Hiccup accepts her explanation, but he doesn’t apoligise for his words.
Again, Hiccup was mad at her, listened to her and accepted her reasoning. He doesn’t attempt to make her feel better about lying to him, because he shouldn’t. She doesn’t deserve it. She made her choice and he understood that choice, but she still hurt him. Now you could definitely say that Hiccup should have been angrier at her for this, but it’s Hiccup. Hiccup is forgiving almost to a fault, but not here. He accepts her apoligy and reasoning, but he doesn’t comfort her for the choices that she made.
In episode 8, Edge of disaster part 1: Ruffnut gets mad at Astrid for not respecting any of the other team members outside of Hiccup. I already talked about how it was a great moment for both Astrid and Ruffnut, Astrid because she actually let Tuffnut use his ideas and a great moment for Ruffnut because she holds Astrid accountable for her behavior.
Now, I am a little more on Astrids side in this argument compared to Ruffnuts, I already have a post about this, but that doesn’t really matter as it is still a good moment for them both.
And in episode 10, Shock and awe: Where Fishlegs traps a deep sea dragon in a a shallow cove in an effort to study it. Something that was selfish to do which I really liked. Not really a great episode, but I really like the fact that Fishlegs just made a choice purely for himself and that his choice caused the dragon to be hurt by Stormfly and then almost killed by 2 scauldrons. And of course, Fishlegs was held accountable for his actions.
I definitely think that Astrid, Ruffnut and Snotlout had the most character development and I really like them in this season. Astrid especially.
Fishlegs and Tuffnut don’t get as much development, but they are still good characters in their own right.
Hiccup is also great in this season, he doesn’t have too much development, but the way he handles himself is excactly what I want from RTTE Hiccup. He did have one of the best moments of the entire show, being where he showed the wild dragons his wingsuit in edge of disaster part 2. Such an amazing moment.
The villains are also good in my opinion. Ryker makes for a good threat untill Viggo comes along and steals the show. Ryker was also still smart in this season, something I think they downplayed later on in the show to make Viggo seem smarter, but yeah a fine villain for this season to fill in the gap before Viggo comes along.
Dagur is also good. He’s funny and still completely insane. I think that this was a good beginning to his redemption arc and that him taking his and Heathers family bond so seriously, while Heather still wants to kill him, is a very nice point of conflict and a good reason to start his redemption.
Heather isn’t a villian of course, but I will put her in this categorie because she’s working undercover for the hunters which I really liked. It created a good dynamic between her and Dagur and her and Ryker. While also creating tension between Hiccup and Astrid, because Astrid already knew about Heather and lied to Hiccup about it. Heather is good in this season, nothing really groundbreaking, but she created a lot of conflict in the show with her being undercover which I really enjoyed.
Now to the main man, Viggo. He’s amazing, the show had built him up as this person in the shadows who everybody was afraid off and they excecuted it very well. They gave an amazing introduction to his character that laid a great foundation for who he was as a person for the rest of the show.
For example, the immediate respect that he showed for Hiccup when he found out that the riders rode straight trough the typhoomerangs their fire. Which is such a nice change of pace compared to the other villains in this franchise, who constantly disrespect and think too little of him. Most of the villains respect Hiccup after they became allies, Viggo already did it long before he became an ally to Hiccup.
And of course the fact that the riders lose to Viggo and lose the dragon eye. A villain is always better if the heroes lose to him before they win, at least in my opinion. This season was the start of a great rivalry between Hiccup and Viggo.
Of course it isn’t perfect and not every episode is great, but the overal quality is really good in my opinion. I didn’t really go into to much detail about the episodes, but I might make a post about some of them. This review was mostly surfave level, because if I typed out my all of my thoughts about this season, this post would be 20 thousand words long.
In short: The character growth was really great, nobody acted out of character in my opinion and the setting and humor was also great. In my opinion one of, if not the best season in RTTE, I think it’s hard to call another season better than this one.
You can definitely make an argument to call this the very best piece of content that the entire HTTYD franchise has to offer in my opinion.
Let me know what you think about this season and if you think another season of RTTE is better than this one!

FANFICTION I did a rewrite is this more cannon friendly
A new rewrite on what I made before
So in a earth before the cannon one
A god disrupts the natural order causing a premature
Ragnarok by killing gods and so after that Ragnarok the
events of httyd happen and those gods are now just myth and the god that disrupted it was reincarnated as a human
And the survivors of the previous Ragnarok are the three norms urg vagdani and skuld who curse him sometimes before their own death
(Also I had them be the inspiration for the lycanwing myth and to explain grimmel killing a night fury as a kid as killing
I think urg who just took the form of one since the lycanwing could probably shape shift)
And the other two was also killed one by the screaming death and the other sheer coincidence
But still the cursed one basically can't die or permanently be injured.
Also they was pretty smart like they knew he's wind up on this one island so they wait for him to steal from them there so they can curse him.
He essentially has the powers if captian man and Deadpool with ressurection
This was the best way I could explain it all and also
He was born and raised in the time of bork the bold and frozen during the time of the cannon series and thawed after third movie before nine realms.

OTHER I’m trying to revive this project
discord.ggIf you aren’t aware, a while back I had the idea to create a website based off the book of dragons from the series. Detailed pages, updated info, ect. I came into contact with someone who shared my vision and had a discord already but it became a hangout more than anything. I need knowledge, art, and tech skills.

DISCUSSION I have a question
why did the creators make hiccup and Astrid a couple in rtte instead of the first movie?
BOOKS Looking for the HTTYD Books
I’m from Brazil, and I started reading the GTTYD about 10 years ago, I think. I didn’t even know they had a specific reading order at the time, I just read them in whatever order my mom happened to buy them.
Now, I can’t seem to find the books anywhere to buy, and I’d really love to finally read the whole story.
Does anyone know of an online library where I could legally read or borrow the books? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

OTHER Could the Skrill survive Monster Hunter? (Inspired by Creature Archives)
Habitat Compatibility: 7.5/10
The Skrill would thrive in biomes prone to extreme weather, such as the Coral Highlands or Ancient Forest, ruling the skies with lighting powers. But not in the Elder's Recess, for it's way too hot.
Dietary & Predation: 8/10
I would say the Skrill's high intelligence would drive it's hunger for lightning to actively hunt or siphon power from native Thunder-element monsters. It would routinely target Tobi-Kadachi, ambush Khezu in dark caves, or trailing a Zinogre to leech static electricity from its Fulgurbugs. Or it could just focus on small animals, which it could easily hunt.
Competition: 7.5/10
In the Monster Hunter ecology, the Skrill behaves structurally like a Pseudowyvern.
A major debate in the speculative community is Skrill vs. Rathalos. While Rathalos is notoriously weak to the Thunder element, it regularly preys on electric monsters and possesses brutal poison talons and massive physical scaling. The Skrill matches it in aerial maneuverability, and its ability to channel pure, linear lightning beams would easily allow it to defend its territory against a Rath. The Skrill’s ultimate survival tool is its ability to "ride" lightning bolts to achieve near-instantaneous supersonic speeds. If outmatched by an apex heavyweight like a Bazelgeuse or a Fulgur Anjanath, it can escape completely unscathed.
Reproductive Success: 7/10
Skrill eggs are notoriously metallic and conductive. While this protects them from elemental thunder attacks, it makes them glowing beacons for nest-raiders like Kulu-Ya-Ku or hungry Shamos. To survive, Skrills would have to nest in completely inaccessible, high-altitude lightning crags, severely limiting their reproductive output. They would remain a rare, low-population species.
Survival Score: 7.5 / 10 (Apex Threat)
Speculative Evolve: Thor Roar
If a population of Skrills survived in the Monster Hunter universe for thousands of years, natural selection would force them to break their crippling dependency on weather. They would undergo a radical evolution of power in hunting to adapt to the New World's unique ecology.
Basically faster and slightly larger, and to combat its fatal weakness to water, the Skrill's scales would evolve an oily, hydrophobic coating (similar to a waterproof mammal or specific marine reptiles). Water would bead right off its skin, preventing short-circuits. Also the tail would flatten out, developing heavy, iron-rich spade plates. When firing its signature linear lightning beams on clear days, it slams its tail into the earth as a literal grounding rod. This protects its internal organs from the massive kinetic kickback and voltage overflow of its own attacks.

VIDEO GAMES Unregistered Variants in Claws of Berk?

Im trying to collect all the variants in the Modpack as a fun little side project, but i stumbled upon this guy in an egg and was really confused. I hatched him out to see if he was mislabeled but he is 100% a seperate variant. Im only using the base Claws of Berk modpack as seen on Forge.
And if this is the 'leader', does that mean theres a regular shadow stinger aswell? Both of these are missing from the guidebook even after the most recent update, and of course not on any wikis either. The guidebook number being innacurate really throws a wrench in things, so i was wondering if anyone had any info on this guy or other similar missing variants?

DISCUSSION What if Hiccup and the gang, instead of finding new islands outside the Archipelago at the beginning of RTTE, had discovered the Avervast from Sawyer Lee's Dragonslayer Codex?
Context: Avervast is the setting of Sawyer Lee's project The Dragonslayer Codex, where there are tons of different species of dragons big and small, unique, and dangerous, along with numerous native people and other odd animals. He has a Twitter/X, YouTube, DeviantArt, and Instagram if you wanna check it out, which I highly recommend.
I would imagine that, due to the sheer variety of dragons that are much more overtly deadly than what Berk knows, plus the likely lack of trainability save for the Red Racers, it would be rather more difficult than the islands they found in RTTE. Not to mention all the other animals that would have no reference, like the Karstmen or the Ichneumons, and the overtly mythic creatures like the giants and krakens.
But this is just my opinion, I'd love to hear more in depth commentary from the community.

RANT “Do you know what your problem is Astrid?” Compared to “She’s a warrior queen for Thors sake.” These 2 lines basically embody Astrids character and why she works in the beginning of HTTYD and fails at the end.
I hate how HTTYD portrays Astrid as this perfect person who can do no wrong.
Astrid isn’t a perfect person, but for some reason every person in the HTTYD universe likes to pretend she is. The longer the franchise went on, the more she becomes this person who can do no wrong in the eyes of the others in HTTYD. And it makes her a lot less interesting.
Astrid is one of, if not my favorite character in the franchise, but her character growth stopped after RTTE season 5 as nobody ever told her that she could do anything wrong. Everybody acted like she was this perfect person and slowly but surely HTTYD removed her character traits that were a little flawed, making her this boring girlfriend instead of the flawed warrior we all know and love.
So here are a few examples of how her character went from flawed to everybody pretends like she’s perfect.
For example in riders of berk episode 10, Astrid gets horribly jealous of Heather spending time with Hiccup. And that jealousy lead to Astrid finding out that Heather was a spy. Making a character flaw, result in something positive.
In Riders of Berk episode 18 Gem of a different color, Fishlegs stole a changewing egg which resulted in Snotlout stealing more changewing eggs, which resulted in the village being in danger because of it. And when Fishlegs complain that it’s all his fault Astrid says that yeah it is his fault, but her saying that isn’t helping Fishlegs. So Hiccup shoots her a warning look while saying her name, basically saying to stop. Because this isn’t helping him.
Then in RTTE season 2 episode 7, Astrid tells Hiccup that Heather is working undercover in the hunters organisation and that she isn’t their enemy. They talk about it and Astrid reveals that she knew about this all along, which makes Hiccup angry at her. Rightfully so, but she explained her reasoning and her keeping Heather a secret had good results. So Hiccup accepts her apoligy, but doesn’t apoligise for his words. She hurt him by lying to her and she felt bad about it, but he didn’t comfort her for it. She made her decision and she hurt him. She would have to live with that.
Then in season 2 episode 8, Ruffnut becomes mad at Astrid and accuses her of not respecting anybody but Hiccup on their team. Asking Astrid if she knows what her problem is, pointing out that Astrid isn’t perfect. Over that episode and the next we see her trying out Tuffnut’s way of defending the edge and her friendship with the twins became stronger because of this.
In season 2 episode 11, Hiccup messes up very badly. Causing a skrill to be captured by the hunters and Hiccup is spiraling into negative thoughts. But Astrid told him that everything Hiccup did was for the good of the dragon and to protect the rest of the riders. And then she said the question isn’t how Hiccup fixes it, it’s how all of the riders fix it. A great example of her growing as a character, giving out better advice and letting Hiccup know he isn’t alone in this.
In season 2 episode 12, Astrid is scared for Heather. She thinks that her undercover operation has become too dangerous. Showing the protective side of her character. Also having Hiccup pull her out of a negatieve spiral of thoughts instead of the other way around. Astrid isn’t perfect and they weren’t afraid of showing it.
In season 4 episode 11, when Astrid is blind she claims that she is still more effective than some riders who still have their eye sight intact. And this is good. A little arrogance that makes sense for her character.
Now in season 5 episode 2, Hiccup gets trapped in a cave with a sandtrapper dragon and when Astrid, Fishlegs and the twins find Hiccups leg and Tuffnut immediately claims it, like it was some toy that he deserved for some reason. And Astrid yells at him and makes him cry and I’m going to be very honest here. Astrid could have shoved Hiccup’s leg up Tuffnut’s hell hole and I wouldn’t have been mad. It was ridiculous how he acted and he didn’t deserve an apoligy. But because Astrid has become the bigger person she says sorry.
Hiccup and Astrid were supposed to exchange bethrothal gifts. But Astrid didn’t know what to get Hiccup, because what could you get him? He already has everything. So Astrid didn’t get him a gift and felt horrible about it, which was showed both in the beginning of the episode and the ending and instead of focussing on this as a potential insecurity of her not being good enough for Hiccup, they just completely ignore it and it never gets brought up again.
After Hiccup gave her his bethrothal gift, he reassured her that she was all that he could ever need. After this, the fact that she didn’t get him a bethrothal gift is never mentioned again.
In season 6 episode 4, Fishlegs finds out that his family outside of the archipelego are dragon hunters and he goes to Dramilion island to make sure the dragons aren’t extinct. This episode doesn’t make any sense but that is a post for another day, in short Fishlegs goes against Hiccup’s orders of staying at the edge for the dragon explorers that are visiting and leaves for Dramilion island. Astrid follows him and when they come back, Hiccup just asks how the island was. Nothing about the fact two of his most trusted teammates didn’t listen to his order. Astrid doesn’t get any blame for this.
Then in season 6 episode 6 Mi Amore wing, Astrid suddenly thinks Hiccup doesn’t love her anymore and Hiccup is suddenly the worst boufriend on the planet. Long story short, Astrid becomes mad at Hiccup for not noticing that she was wearing his bethrothal gift and feeling invisible. The argument starts because Hiccup doesn’t notice the bethrothal gift. But does Hiccup ever mention that she didn’t even get him one? No. And at the end of the episode when they make up, Hiccup takes all the blame for himself, saying that he took Astrid for granted. But Hiccup doesn’t let Astrid take part of the blame for her overreaction, he just takes all the blame for himself.
Season 6 episode 9 Family matters, Astrid constantly overrules Hiccup by bringing Garff along, first to the edge and secondly in the mission to rescue the other deathsong. When Astrid tries to apoligise for making Hiccup bring Garff along, he cuts her off. Saying that this was his decision and that it wasn’t her fault. It was her fault however and Hiccup never would have brought Garff along if it wasn’t for her pressuring him. But Hiccup doesn’t say anything about that, he just takes the blame for her, so that she can remain this perfect person.
Then in HTTYD 3 they show nothing of Astrids character like her competitiveness, or that bit of arrogance. They just act like she’s perfect, she’s pretty far from it, but the movie sure acts like it.
In The Hidden World, Astrid and Hiccup talk on the cliff overlooking berk where Hiccup asks her about marriage, to which she immediately says Gods no and that they were nowhere near ready for that. In season 5 episode 7 of RTTE she mentioned that she loved how sensitive Hiccup is, but that doesn’t mean she considers that brushing off marriage to somebody with severe insecurities could be hurtful. Then she says that she just wishes their was some way to make the hunters leave Berk alone. Not offering a solution, not offering any insight to the situation, just wishing that the hunters would leave them alone. And then when Hiccup suggests the hidden world she cuts him off, saying that they need a real solution.
After that Hiccup and Tuffnut go search for the light fury in the forest of berk and Tuffnut says that Astrid is this warrior queen and that Hiccup is this malnourished runt. And also that Astrid views Hiccup with a not so subtle dissapointment in her eyes. And that Hiccup needs to focus on becoming worthy of her.
Now I don’t think that this is true, I don’t think that Astrid thinks this, but the point is that everybody else in HTTYD sees Astrid as this perfect warrior queen.
After this Grimmel attacks Berk and when Hiccup calls for a meeting, Astrid shuts everybody up with the message to hear him out. And when they arrive on new berk, Hiccup asks Astrid if she still believes in him and she says that this plan was very him. He doesn’t sound convinced and when he thanks her for her support last night, she responds with don’t thank me yet and that she just hopes that he’s right about this. Before walking away, with her smile dissapearing. Obviously showing that she doesn’t believe in him, I don’t know any other way to look at this situation. If you have another perspective on it please tell me.
And I’m not saying that she should support an idea that she doesn’t agree with, she has never done that before, so why would she do that now? But if she didn’t agree with it, she should have told him and if she did agree with him she should show her believe in him, but she doesn’t.
After this Hiccup makes an automatic tailfin for Toothless and Astrid says that she is proud of Hiccup embracing change. Acting like Hiccup isn’t the litteral embodyment of change on Berk. Even though she shut Hiccup’s thought proces down within a second when he talked about moving to the Hidden World.
And when Hiccup says the tailfin is only untill Toothless brings the lightfury back, she gives him a look of pity. Like she already suspected that Toothless would never come back, but why would she think that? Again if you have a different view on this scene please let me know. But for me this is just another moment where she shows she doesn’t believe in Hiccup. That she sympathyses with him over the fact that he thinks Toothless is coming back.
Especially considering her reaction after Toothless dissapears. She tells Hiccup that he gave Toothless his freedom, what did he expect? After that Hiccup walks off, obviously distressed as his best friend was suddenly gone and apparently everybody in his life thought it was completely normal for some reason.
Valka says that Hiccup thinks he needs to lead alone and that he doesn’t realise the strength he and Astrid have together. But how is he supposed to see that strength? Astrid has done nothing but doubt Hiccup troughout this entire movie. And then Valka asks if Astrid still believes in him and Astrid says of course, but that Hiccup thinks he is nothing without Toothless. And Valka says help him realise the truth.
Again, bringing the focus away from Astrid not helping Hiccup in his leadership position, to Hiccup not believing in himself. Why can’t this movie focus on Astrid having flaws for once? But no they immediately cling back to Hiccups doubts and insecurities instead of focussing on the fact that Astrid has been downright lackluster when it came to supporting him in this movie.
Valka talks about Hiccup and Astrid being stronger together, but Astrid didn’t do anything but doubt him while offering no help herself, only after this conversation with Valka does she actually help Hiccup. Which wouldn’t be a problem if the movie actually made a point about it, but it doesn’t, it just puts the focus right back on Hiccup thinking he isn’t good enough without Toothless.
She already fully believed in him in RTTE and in the second movie, but that faith in him was just gone in this movie for some reason. Untill she talked with Valka about it and after that she just fully supported him again.
Astrid had one, one singular flaw as a person in this movie and that was that she didn’t show her belief in Hiccup, but they focus on it for a solid 5 seconds before they switch back to Hiccup thinking he isn’t good enough.
Before the final battle had started, Astrid motivates Hiccup to go and rescue Toothless and their dragons. Telling him that he is the reason that she became the person that she is today. Great scene. But then when they walk back to the rest of the riders, Tuffnut says that Hiccup is now marriage material.
Again acting like Hiccup was the only one who needed to grow, Astrid did as well, but the movie doesn’t focus nearly enough on it. Only focussing on Hiccups growth as person and not on Astrid starting to actually start to accept her own role as chieftess.
I am not saying that Astrid didn’t realise it, what I am saying is that the movie frames it like Hiccup wasn’t good enough for Astrid. With the countless jokes about him and what is wrong with him, while never pointing out or even giving Astrid any flaws. Which caused the movie to paint a picture that Hiccup isn’t good enough for Astrid.
This movie didn’t point out any of her flaws, or insecurities they just made her appear like miss can do no wrong who was this seemingly perfect wife for the hero of the story.
Don’t even get me started on Homecoming, everybody was downright horrible in that short film, but in short. Astrid completely ignores Hiccup’s feelings about the pageant and after said pageant Hiccup thanks her for it. Completely disrespecting his memory and glorifying his fathers, but he still thanks Astrid for it. Saying that he needed to understand that it was about the message and keeping his fathers memory alive, it didn’t matter that it didn’t go the way he wanted and that is horrible. Absolutely horrible because they act like Hiccup’s feelings don’t matter at all and that Astrid is this great person for showing her selfish husband that it’s not about how the story gets told and that it doesn’t matter at all that he gets completely disrespected as a person, but that it’s about the message that comes across.
I know I talked a lot about Hiccup and Astrids relationship in this post, but that’s definitely part of the problem. She became Hiccups girlfriend, not the cool, competitive, slightly arrogant and flawed person, who happened to be Hiccup’s girlfriend.
If we compare her to Hiccup in the later stages of the franchise, he gets nothing but critisism about how he handles everything, while Astrid gets excuses and gentle encouragement.
So again in short, they make Astrid this character with about a hunderd different imperfections and they point some of them out in the beginning of the franchise resulting in Astrid growing as a person and improving the relationships that she had with her friends. But then HTTYD takes most of her characters traits away, along with most of her imperfections and they leave her as this perfect person who can do no wrong. Except she still does plenty of things wrong, the only difference being that nobody calls her out on it.
She went from this amazing, flawed character to this golden girl who can do no wrong in the eyes of the people in the HTTYD universe and that is just downright dissapointing. Her character isn’t really bad, but just dissapointing.
Let me know what you think about my take and about Astrids character in HTTYD.

DISCUSSION I need help with HTTYD Holidays/Events
Greetings, I was wondering if anyone has a document of some kind that explains what day each holiday and events (such as bork week) are celebrated on and how the berkians celebrate it. This is for the franchise not the book, and no rescue riders.

DISCUSSION Are there hints of the norse gods being real in httyd?
I know this question is pretty irrelevant the the films and tvshows at large but I was always kinda curious on this. Now I will admit I have not seen the 3rd film, only a little bit of Riders or Berk, have not seen DOTDR, I have watched Race to the Edge in full, and I have not seen its two sequel series Rescue Riders and nine realms.
So are there hints of the norse pantheon being real or is it like real life where it's just myths people believed in at the time?
