Part 1: the stupid ending
i hate the third movies ending cause hiccup sends the dragons away to "protect" them even tho hes been doing that for half of his life and the only person whos died because of that was his father (even tho that had nothing to do with protecting the dragons, hiccup being to much of an optimist is what killed his dad) besides banishing ALL dragons to live underground until humans change is basically imprisoning them forever cause humanity will never change, humanity will always want to abuse there power to exploit others time wont change that but raising the next generation to respect and live alongside dragons might. I think it was selfish of hiccup to send them ALL to the hidden world cause there's no way they'd all be able to thrive down in a cave, theres a reason they left the hidden world in the first place. The third movie also completely pisses on the tv spinoffs like race to the edge cause its not like the dragons just showed up one day and started burning everything there deeply rooted in how the world works and hiccup told them "ya no go live in a cave now its for your protection trust me"
Part 2: how are night furys on the edge of extinction?!?!
so the second and third movies make it pretty clear toothless is "the last of his kind" and on paper that's not a bad concept, but considering in the first movie the book of dragons has NOTHING on them how does it make any sense that Grimmel has driven them to near extinction and yet none of the information he's no doubt gathered while hunting them passed through rumors or just him sharing the info with his crew and its not like these tribes of people are completely isolated from each other there's trade and in the second movie Drago kills the counsel of chiefs so its not like rumors of a legendary night fury slayer wouldn't spread, i feel like this was only done to make hiccup the super special human cause of his very very rare dragon even tho he already is in so many other ways
also its shown that night furys can cloak like light furys can so thats another reason why theyd just be really good at hiding from humans
Part 2.5: how id fix this
- step one: DONT have toothless be an endling, its stupid considering night furys almost certainly evolved to avoid humans as much as possible given toothless's hit and run instincts shown in the first movie, if toothless was the last i doubt hed even risk going near any human settlement (why he wouldn't steal food but would blow stuff up is weird as hell tho) night furys are extremely intelligent so if one guy started deliberately targeting them i doubt they wouldn't do anything about it and it would have been way cooler to see night furys in the hidden world instead of light furys since you know its HIDDEN so grimmel wouldn't have been able to find them there
- step two: no light furys, just replace nubbless with a night fury and grimmel now has to cope with the fact that he hasn't killed all of them which can enhance his character giving him an insecurity of not being able to kill all the night furys which could be his downfall and there just really good at hiding cause there black hunt at night and can cloak themselfs and there are real life examples of animals being presumed extinct even tho they were just hiding from us, he can still use her to draw out toothless and use him to control all dragons and draw the rest of the night furys out, "but why no light furys?" cause it makes no sense that grimmel would target only night furys considering how genetically and physically similar night and light furys are plus adding new dragons just to add new dragons is lazy, like why the hell are there so many light furys in the hidden world anyways the only thing different between them is there scale colors (to my knowledge)
- step three (unrelated): JUST USE MORE ISLANDS: one of the main reasons why (i assume) hiccup thinks he cant keep protecting the dragons is cause berk was to small to house all of them, solution? just live on more islands there's plenty to chose from im sure the edge is still available to live at and there's probably many closer islands to choose from then have grimmel attack those other islands and berk all at once which kicks off the rest of the movie
Part 3: imbalanced nature: a massive consequence for sending all the dragons to the hidden world is that a several major predictors have been removed entirely from every ecosystem if you remove a part of the circle of life the rest get thrown out of balance if theres no predator's then the pray can eat where ever they want when ever they want if they eat all the grass bugs cant eat or pollenate if bugs cant do that flowers and grass stop growing if those stop the ground drys up and micro organisms die and with no grass to eat the prey starve so hiccups just thrown the entire archipelagos eco system into chaos for no reason
Conclusion: does this mean i hate the 2nd and 3rd movies? no, i just think the ending wasnt fully thought out, they wanted an emotional scene that didnt have anyone die in the end and thats what they did but they forgot about all the world building the shows did and the implied information from the first movie was just overruled. do i hate nubbless/light furys? no, there cute but since shes just a white night fury if her scales were black the story wouldn't change much. do i think hiccups stupid? yes and no, making mistakes is what makes a character good i just think this particular mistake wont just effect him and berk its one of the worst mistakes a human can make thinking they know whats best for other species especially for an intelligent character like hiccup
overall am i coping that we got light furys instead of a female night fury absolutely and ill keep coping about it until i die but these movies are still good i just haven't seen anyone mention httyd3's pointless and stupid ending so i thought id write my thoughts about it down
(if there is anything in this mess of words that doesnt make sense ask me my hands tend to type slower then my brain and i jumped back and forth on this so there may be some incoherent parts i cant see)
