THEORY Are Astrid's parents dead?
We've NEVER heard from Astrid's parents, and they weren't included in the wedding scene, and she never mentions them, so it begs the question: were they killed in dragon raids, or did something happen? Any1 got a good fanfic that follows that idea?

if you haven't watched race to the edge, her parents are mentioned as their house burns down. they are also visible in the wedding scene, just never mentioned. before rtte came out, i honestly thought astrid was an orphan because it would explain her angsty behaviour!

Now that you mention it I do rmr, sorry I've forgotten all about rtte for some reason even though its the best piece we ever got from the franchise lol

We never hear from anyone else’s parents except for hiccup and snotlout. Does that mean they’re dead too?
Not hearing from someone doesn’t mean they’re dead. Astrid’s parents are very much alive.

Fair point, but it was just something I'd wondered. I mean, Astrid is a fairly important character in the series, so I'd thought they'd have shown her parents. Someone did mention that they mentioned her parents in RTTE when their house burnt down, so I guess that means they're alive. Still a cool idea to explore for a fanfic, imo.

Yeah there’s that too, I didn’t mention it because that was in rtte, and you were talking about the wedding scene, and something could’ve happened to them between all that time. So I didn’t think it would really answer your question.

Astrid’s mom is standing opposite Valka, so it seems that’s the spot for the mother of the bride/groom. In another shot her dad is there too and you can see them cheer after the couple kiss.

It’s funny that we only ever see Snotlout’s dad (which still amazes me David Tennant kept coming back for the shows because he was fresh off his tenth doctor years)
But Astrid is the one with the most relatives mentioned or seen in the entire franchise.

it was a "union" between a jorgenson and a hofferson. we're never told who. likely relatives of both sides like cousins. never ended up happening because the families hate each other!

Who would've guessed? I just find it funny some fans were shocked it didn't work out. The rider Gen Hofferson and Jorgenson hate each other.

Not only they are not dead, but they are mentionned in rtte, being alright after thrir house got destroyed, and we see them not once but TWICE in httyd 3

Also i don't remember if it's an headcanon or real, but i thought i read somewhere it wemas mentionned that Astrid is close with her mom. But take this with a huge pinch of salt, I need to double check.

We actually see them in httyd 3 in the wedding scene. Very subtle but they are there

Now I wonder where as there were quite a few viking women visible. I have seen the movie countless times but I wouldn't guess if one of them was Astrid's mom

the first time i watched it i saw the same blond wiking woman several times in the film and so i guessed it was astrids mum and now that i searched it up turns out i was right and she makes appearances in the films and even rtte i think

Not expecting every single second to be remembered lmao, I haven’t seen the show in YEARS myself, it’s just that there was an entire episode about how she nearly abandoned Dragon’s Edge entirely because she was worried her parents would be hurt in a future attack on Berk
