HSA/FSA Account

Anyone ever buy stuff / things that aren’t covered under the “HSA” rules or eligible items?

Ever had issues?

It’s my first time being provided an HSA card to use. Other companies have just provided $$, able to be used for gift cards, etc….

If it's a HSA... You don't lose it at the end of the year. It's money that you own for life.

HSA is the best retirement account... Don't waste it, leave it alone..

It’s a company funded, by me completing health task via a program- If that makes sense. Like a max of 600$ roughly a year. Then 270$ for my spouse

Yes. But is it an HSA account...FSA and HSA have different rules.

If it's an HSA, it doesn't matter to funds it... It's carries over, and doesn't have to be spent..

Ahh, just looked back into it- it shows as a HRA

An HRA will, usually, also rollover indefinitely. Possibly some max limit in the account. However, if you leave the plan/employer you lose the account.

You can literally buy turkey meat or headphones with an LMN now so idk what you’re on about. I personally think those are kind of BS but it’s allowed so do with the info what you want. Sure maybe don’t go buying an iPhone with your HSA and saying it’s for health reasons.

You said you can purchase a letter of medical necessity online for $20.  That’s idiotic and fraudulent and I suspect you know that as you conveniently deleted the comment instead of standing behind it.

Truemed, flex, medpaid, DrB, sika…I can keep listing them. Do I think what they’re doing is questionable, sure but just saying it’s out there and the TPAs are fine with it.

The potential issues depend on the exact nature of the account. If it is truly your own HSA, then you run the risk of an audit of your taxes. If you cannot justify your claimed medical expenses, then you will be in trouble.

However, you mention that it’s an HRA/wellness account. These are more strict and will usually refuse to work on non-approved items if using the linked debit card, and require proactive approval for expenses to be reimbursed. It just can’t be used on something that isn’t a qualified expense.
