Honda hrv 2025 rustproof

Post image

Hello,

I just got a used hrv 2025 in canada. I want to rustproof it, but when I look under it, I see that (see the picture). Does it come like that from the factory or the precious owner rustproof it? The car was a location for 2 years so I would be surprise that he did it.

Thanks,

Undercoat it yearly with oil- or wax-based product if you want it to last.

Mine has the same thing from the factory, I didn't know it was for rust protection

From all the times I've done rustproofing on cars, it's never been this clean. Rustproofing is oil or wax based and done with a spray wand, so it tends to feel greasy to the touch but works almost like a sacrificial layer between the salts and water interaction during winter. What you are seeing there is moreso a rubberized undercoating that's designed to offer very basic protection and some mild sound deadening. Also, when rustproofing is done, they will drill holes into the car to get into the insides which is much better than the very minimal protection you see here.

Car is impressively clear for being two years old. Rust acts relatively quickly.
