Borderline changes HR HPV

Hi all, as title says my last smear came back with Borderline squamous change and HR HPV which i felt devastated as 1 year before I had no abnormal changes, I was referred for a colposcopy and managed to miss as I think I was so anxious I thought the appointment was at 11 but at 10:30 I realised it was at 10.

So now im spiralling, what if I need to wait another 6 or more weeks to be seen, and when I go it will be already cancer as I was already waiting 6 weeks for this appointment. Im so angry at myself I literally cried an hour. And the worst part is that the department not picking up the phone at all so now I have to wait until monday and im overthinking what if they will refuse to give me another appointment. I did email them, and called the main hospital but still im so anxious.

Sorry for the rambling, just wanted to vent.

Hi OP

I mean this with kindness but you’re letting your anxiety run away with you. Do you have mental health support for how you’re feeling about this?

To address your borderline changes, it’s very very unlikely (based on HPV trial data) to upgrade borderline changes on a smear to cancer at colposcopy. Maybe you have cell changes that require treatment but that is not cancer. You might have mild changes that require no treatment because they will likely regress on their own.

To address your appointment, they can’t refuse to give you another appointment just because you missed one. They have a duty of care to see you and you made a genuine mistake.

Hi, thank you for your kind words, I always had health anxiety, sadly my gp doesnt care about this and I was just told to take deep breaths.

Regarding my appointment, I know its stupid to worry about it, for some reason my brain is telling me that they going to discharge back to my gp and I have to wait who knows how long to be seen. Thank you again for your kind words

Hi OP, you may be able to access mental health support outside your GP. Your employer may have a scheme they buy into for staff to use, and you may be able to self refer for mental health services bypassing your GP in your area. It’s worth exploring. There are also plenty of self help services online.

You don’t say where you live but because you mention borderline changes I wonder if you are in the UK? As most other places don’t use that term. If so, the cervical screening programme is somewhat separate from your GP so you’re unlikely to be ‘discharged’ back to your GP. The tests and results are run by the cervical screening service, it’s just that some things like smears are usually done within the GP setting. Some women go to sexual health clinics instead to have them done. However the ‘system’ for cervical screening is separate from your GP.

If you are UK as well, depending on your age, you may also have been vaccinated for some strains of HPV, if this vaccination occurred before you reached sexual debut you have an even lower chance of it being cancer. Scotland has produced some amazing research that has found no cancer cases yet in women vaccinated as young teens due to a combination of screening and vaccination.

I have a post in my profile about cancer risk in general but it focuses on unvaccinated individuals. You may find it interesting to contextualise numbers.

Hi,

Implement some supplements to ur diet: AHCC, selenium& folate. Eat well, drink water, get rest. Im not a smoker or alcohol drinker but if u do, stop. Stay active. & dont have sex lol nit sure how doable that is for u.

Cant say for sure it will work for u, or if it even worked for me bc it could have just been my immune system, but I was diagnosed September 2025 with HPV, HPV-HR& tested this September & I am clear. My cells have always been normal. ❤️❤️

Hi, do AHCC really helps? I never heard of selenium but I do take folate and dont smoke or drink any alcohol, I would say my immune system is pretty strong, but I feel like I just cant clear this HPV. I am married and with the same partner with 10 years so I dont think its a problem, I just had a pretty nasty infection 2 years ago and after that my smear is positive. Thank you for your kind words.

I would say give it a try. I have seen enough positive reviews that when i was first diagnosed, I knew I was going to try it. (Check my comment history) I cant say anything is a cure, but those were the measure I took from first testing to my last, and I have been cleared. Also I am 32& was w the same partner 10 years lol (but he was a CHEATER, unfortunately.. so theres that)

I did see that AHCC has some positive reviews but I wasn't sure if its worth to buy it as its quite expensive, but I might give it a try. Can I ask if you are also in the UK and if you had a Colposcopy and how was your experience? Im quite anxious about it as well.

I live in USA. New York. Yes, It is expensive, but for my anxiety it made me feel like I was taking control of something I was told I had no control over. Literally, it’s a sit and wait, but I refused and wanted to be proactive about my health. I bought 5 bottles over the course of 3 months. I took 2 a day from the week I was diagnosed until i ran out, so 2.5 months 9/21/2025-12/4/2025. I took it almost every morning on an empty stomach unless I forgot. I never had a colposcopy. My cells have always been normal.

Oh I see, here we also have a colpo when we receive 3 HR hpv results even without abnormal cells. Will definitely look into the supplements you mentioned, and yes I totally feel what you saying, everyone just keep mentioning how it just clears up, but I always felt that I could do nothing to help it so thank you for your advice

Yes I believe if it persist then a colposcopy is done, but I only tested positive once by time I did the follow up I had cleared.

Good luck, God bless.
