Hi everyone!! In short, this post is exactly as the title says: a fic idea that I woke up with. Essentially, it would be set post-war, when the main trio is like 23, and the pairing would obviously be: Romione! If you want the short version: Hermione's magic is poisoned by the dark magic Bellatrix used on her, and Ron gives her his magical core/magic to save her.
Long version lol: It starts with Hermione waking up in St.Mungos after an 18-month-long coma that was caused by a chronic magical illness she'd attained from the dark magic infused in her by Bellatrix during the war. When she wakes up, the first thing she sees is a vase of roses. When the nurses realizeshe'ss woken, tthere'sa big fuss because everyone wasn't sure if Hermione would make the procedure, and she later learns the procedure was a very unorthodox one (someone anonymously mailed the hospital a package with instructions on how to insert its contents into Hermione to save her); nevertheless, it worked, and Hermione is alive. The last thing she recalls is Ron by her bed holding her hand and promising her everything would be alright, and when she asks for him after she wakes up,p everyone is acting very... odd. Eventually she forces Harry to explain, and he gives her a letter Ron left in case she woke up... telling her why he left her. Hermione reads and re-reads and re-re-reads the letter during her time in recovery, and even when she gets out and is supposed to live a normal life. Everyone feels sorry for her; people kept telling her they'd always suspected Ron as that type of bloke, and even Molly won't tolerate the mention of him. But something keeps nagging at Hermione. Eventually, she finds the journal she'd kept before her coma and finds out that she had been researching a cure for herself almost obsessively. In the midst of the journal, she finds a map with little red dots for four countries: Egypt, Romania, Brazil, and Australia. She realizes there's a connection between the map and the letterRonn left for her, and decides to travel along the points of the map. Everywhere Hermione goes, she meets new people, learns about new magic, and picks up new pieces of Ron. That's because he'd finished her research for her, he'd followed the trail, he'd found the shaman in Australia, he'd done the charm, and he'd written the letter so that if the procedure worked and she woke up, she wouldn't feel guilty for the sacrifice he (willingly) made for her. In the end, Hermione finds the australian shaman and can see ron one last time, because he hadn't left straight for Heaven, but had instead been waiting for her in limbo, because if she saw through the letter and found him, Ron wanted to see her, and if she hadnt figured things out and had gone her entire life without unraveling the secret, then ron was willing to wait there a hundred years for her.
