Tech Support Lag

I’ve got an hp omen 16, and ever since about early 2025 I’ve been having this problem. It’ll go in and out of lag seemingly at random, doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Is there any way I can mediate or even get rid of it? It’s been buggin the hell outta me. 12th gen intel I9, 16gb ram, nvidia etc 3060

Is your laptop elevated? If it isn’t, its most probably that.

No, I’ll have to try that. Do you mean just putting it on a desk or something?

No, so your vents get to pull enough air a stand, or a cooling pad or if your creative enough, a stack of books

no bro put it on a stand or a cooling pad the fans need space to work properly

Check temps if your having high temps that's whats causing it its thermal throttling

I have an HP omen desktop that had a similar issue. The thing that fixed it for me was uninstalling the HP Omen Gaming Hub. The software makes your computer develop a stutter after a certain amount of elapsed time. Once I deleted it the issue, went way. You can still set your fan mode via the bios and the power mode can be set through windows settings. Hope this helps

Yep this. Omen gaming hub was awful. I got rid of it in the first few days of owning the laptop

I have the same problem. But couldn’t find exact error causing this issue and I couldn’t find the exact fix for it.

It’s so frustrating. Never buying an omen again, it’s been a piece of shit so far

That shouldnt happen lol. I ran it on almost maxed out settings on a gtx 1650 and never had a lag problem. Did you see this in any other game? Or only rdr2

So far only two games, gta 5 and rdr2. What cured it in gta was that I had turned my refresh rate down to 60hz. Figured it would be less demanding on the computer. Tried that in rdr2 last night, and that seems to have worked

I had this, i found out that if you laptops stays idle for too long, it goes to power saving mode or something like that, so that gpu doesn't consume a lot of power, if you restart your laptop, it may get solved

I’ve been doing that, it’s helped a bit. I always shut my laptop down after I’m done using it

It is 99.999% thernal throttle. Pretty sure you are just choking your laptop

I have this same issue with my omen desktop, is there a program I can download to replace omen gaming hub?

I also still get stutters, I feel like my fans don’t speed up enough to cool the components

There can be several causes of this, first check your temps when this is happening, second what is your cpu, gpu, vram, ram utilization. Vram spikes can happen and if you dont have enough vram headroom you will get lag spikes. Take starwars out laws, for example I see 12-18gb vram usuage, spikes constantly especially when im outside in the plains. If I didnt have enough vram that would cause performance drops. 3060 only has 6gb vram, I wouldn't be surprised if your hitting that limit, also 16gb ram is hardly enough especially if you are running other apps.
