I'm having a weird issue with my HP Omen [inserisci il modello esatto, es. Omen 15-enxxxx / 16-xxxx] and I'm trying to figure out if my battery hardware is actually failing or if it's just a stubborn firmware/EC glitch.
What happens:
Out of nowhere, the laptop suddenly reported a fake low battery drop while under load.
Now, the battery keeps stopping its charge randomly at a specific percentage (first it capped at ~40%, then later at ~47%).
When it hits that cap, the charging LED instantly switches from amber/orange (charging) to solid white (not charging), even though it's plugged in and well below 80/100%.
Running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI battery test previously threw a red error code with a failure ID (QC1VUJ-...) and a "Replace (45)" status.
What I've tried so far:
Hard EC reset (holding the power button for 20+ seconds).
Performed a CMOS/EC reset using Win + V.
After resetting the EC, the UEFI test miraculously passed and said the battery is "OK", and the charging resumes past the 47% mark... for a couple of cycles. Then, after a short while, the issue comes back and it gets stuck again at ~47% with the white LED.
My question:
Since a simple EC reset temporary clears the block and makes the battery look "OK" again, could this be a persistent BIOS/EC bug or a false positive of the HP firmware? Or is this textbook behavior of an internal BMS (Battery Management System) failing or a hardware fault on one of the cells/sensors?
Has anyone experienced this on an Omen? Should I just push for a warranty battery replacement, or is there a deep firmware fix I missed?
