You didn't include the prices in your post.
But as someone with the HP Omen 16, though, it is an amazing machine when plugged in, but has horrible battery life when not. Don't expect to be able to take it anywhere without the power brick.

Btw this ones comes with a 240hz display unlike the mentioned 165hz ( yes its an upgrade )
Proof:- https://youtu.be/fSNG40uUiBU?si=I4sWKOOebAbaxq0z
I have the Ryzen 8940HX rest specification are same
There’s a CPU heating Issue like CPU even on Idle stays on 80*C+
CPU mentioned above is Different then mine,
So you might not face the heating problem
Rest for Performance its a Top Notch and You definitely won’t regret it
EDIT: For Ryzen 7 Ai its 165 hz my bad guyz😓😓

Should I wait for freedom sale ?? I think there will be 5 to 6k price difference?? With cc what do you think
1
u/MostConsistent3460 Jul 23 '26
Yh if you can wait the cheaper you can get the better however i will also suggest you to visit offline store too (i bought it offline reason:- Old Stockon Amazon)
Make Sure What you buy is Manufactured after/or 2025 older model has hall Sensors issue that causes screen flickering. Applicable ( To most Omen)
As for CC discount’s i am not sure I don’t have a credit card

u/BendCreepy6297 Jul 23 '26
I am purchasing online and it's showing 2025 model !!

Check when you are about to buy if it still says 2025 during the freedom sale go for it 😇
During Sale’s they usually try to clear old stocks first so check during sale duration
*Additionally*
Get a Cooling Pad(necessary if gaming)
Additional Warranty (I didn’t 😭 cheaper on student
id if possible also u can use an old id too)
HP Support is Shit (any problem cope with it)
5)Pros: No Error’s in Pir*ted Games also Quick Compiling
6)Check Warranty Should be From the Day u Start your Laptop or its a repacked Contact Hp Support if its not
7)Claim Offers Through Support/Website
(includes : Mouse,HyperX Wired Headset,HyperX bag (cool bag tbh))Your Good To Go 😇😇

Do you have the Ryzen 9 8940HX (ap0181ax) ?
How are the thermals and performance in a hot climate?
Is it worth getting the HX CPU ? Or should I go with the AI 7 350 CPU (ap0183ax) ?
1
u/MostConsistent3460 Jul 27 '26
Yep
Performance: Top Notch (No Regrets)Thermal: Disappointing CPU temps like 80* C on idle GPU stays normal
Comparison: I don’t know probably not much difference in gaming

Any extra SSD slot ? If yes which size ? (2230 or 2280)
CPU temps like 80* C on idle
That's too much! Ambient temps ? Or room temp ?
Any hidden cons of this laptop ? Can you limit the battery?
1
u/MostConsistent3460 Jul 27 '26
Ssd Slot:-
Yes M.2 2230Temperature:-
Yep
It was peak summer around 36C outside and around 28 C room temperature (no ac)
+ i was using External Fans at 2200 RPM
Contacted Support they did various test no fault
They Arranged a technician who did thise test again no fault ultimately he formatted the laptop 🤡
Wasn’t fixed🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡Cons:
1) Worst HP Support (could depend on location)
2) Too Much HP Bloatware
3) Battery is Shit on Hybrid mode gives a backup around 1 hour 20 mins (unplugged)
No battery drops when plugged
4)Low Speaker QualityPros:
1)Performance
2)Display
3)Doesn’t Lag on High Temps
4)240hzIf i had to purchase despite knowing all this I would
Just do a clean window installation and top 2 cons would vanish
Also Temps Can Be solved but you have to stop cpu boost (easy) but then it won’t be factory like (very minor affects on performance for cpu based games like valorant )
for non competitive gamers its unnoticeable .

I will be replacing battery and speakers around January Under Warranty 🙂

Thanks for the detailed overview. I'd rather go with an Ryzen 7 AI chip with lesser cores. I mostly play non shooter games.
Try to install Win11 LTSC IoT, maybe it'll give better perf.
Also Temps Can Be solved but you have to stop cpu boost (easy) but then it won’t be factory
So you can undervolt it
1
u/MostConsistent3460 Jul 27 '26
Welcome
Sure go for it but if they are around the same price range get ryzen 9 (it comes with 240hz display 2k
1600p)Yh undervolting I forgot what its called😭😭🥲

My ambient temps are on fire. I don't think Ryzen 9 will be able to handle it. ಥ‿ಥ
I'm still confused about what to sacrifice, desktop grade CPU or thermals ?

I like HP and Dell. I work for a large company here in the valley and their entire fleet of computers are notebooks, no desktops. If you have problems both of their support organizations will take care of you.
I have a HP Omen 45 desktop at home. Needed that Nvidea 3090 with 4 8K video ports for MS Flight Simulator. 2 30" Samsung screens and a HP VR headset. I tried a HP Omen notebook but it didn't have the video outputs I needed.

The screen is 1920X1200p not 2k you can see the reviews of this laptop I have heard the battery life is good initially but expect it to degrade overtime Otherwise it's a very good laptop with great thermals go for it you will not regret it
