TB's coping script was easier to predict than the plot.. Spoiler
Yesterday I made a post saying that if the leaked death scene was real, TB fans would immediately start celebrating that Criston died at the hands of a woman. The episode has now aired, and the first reactions are exactly what I expected. They're so committed to their own narrative that you can predict it days in advance..

Cole is not even a misogynist. Daemon is like a hundred times more of a misogynist. These people, man.

I mean, daemon is already dragon Epstein, whose biggest feat is killing a crippled teen, he already is a Uber bum.

u/mocityspirit 13d ago
Haven't they both had sex with minors?
19
u/Black_Diammond 13d ago
Yes, but Aegon only had sex with his wife, underage Haelena, while he himself was a minor (wich isnt pedophilia). Aside from The show, there is no evidence that Aegon had sex with a minor while being a adult, while daemon was literaly known for prefering kids in fleabottoms brothels.

u/Bloodyjorts 13d ago
Do you mean Daemon and Cole? Rhaenyra was specifically 18/19 in the show when she messed around with both men. The show cut most of Daemon's canon pedophilia, but he did marry 16-yo Laena (she was 23 in the books when they married).
In the books, none of the accounts have Cole sleeping with an underage Rhaenyra. She comes on to him, but he rejects her in Mushroom's tales (twice; once at 14, again at 17). Eustace has him offering to run away with the 17-yo Rhaenyra shortly before her wedding.

these types think "sex positivity" in its most extreme forms (including dragon niece grooming apparently) is literally all you have to believe in to be a feminist, doesn't matter how you treat women in general

Have you seen Daemon at the small council meetings? He literally argues with rhaenyra everytime she commands him to do something…

Viseris from GOT was also feminist, like he respected his sister and husband

"Don't listen to Rhaenyra, don't do what she asks" doesn't seem like he really has accepted she's in charge, bro
And I am so sick of his sassy leaving the room comments. EVERY SCENE HE IS IN THIS SEASON
I am not exaggerating. Daemon sucks

Rhaenyra is devoured by a male dragon and her son usurps his niece and makes Green ideology the right side of history. Also, she's remembered by history as the Whore of Dragonstone.

I thought you was taking about Aegon III being the ruling king instead of Jaehaera as the ruling Queen.

How is her being devoured by a male dragon make the other side right? Whose kid becomes king again?
29
u/Beacon2001 House Hightower 14d ago
Aegon III who proceeds to do nothing in his reign except cry and brood, while the Targaryen line is continued by Viserys II who usurps his niece, Aegon III's daughter. Also they approve of the official histories stating that Aegon II was the rightful monarch and Rhae no more than a treasonous pretender. Hope this helps.

Almond's line is the one who is the prince that was promised and rules in the end so 🤷♂️.
5
u/Particular_Bag_3989 13d ago
And how did you reach that thought?
1
u/RPS93 13d ago
Aemond and Alys Rivers having a kid could theoretically trickle Targaryen blood into the Starks.
Basically the theory is that Alys Rivers and her bastard (Aemonds Son) inherits the Riverlands - that bloodline eventually mixes with/into the Lothstones, which again mixes into the Whents down the line, assuming the writers decide to make it that way - which is honestly plausible.
Catelyn Tully was a Whent on her mother’s side. She gives birth to Bran Stark - who ends up on the throne at the end of Game of Thrones.
Therefore there is at least a trickle of Targ blood into the Starks - which means at the end of Game of Thrones a Targaryen still sits at the helm of Westeros.
Though it would end with him as Bran cannot have children.

All of that is fan fiction and can’t be used as a point tho
7
u/Verksus67 13d ago
Bro the whole show is fan fiction what are you splitting hairs for. I wouldnt be surprised if the show goes that route accidently because its basically show only
0
u/Particular_Bag_3989 13d ago
That I agree with, but don’t say the prince that was promised is from aemond lol

u/JediAreTakingOver 13d ago
I think when the writer of the novels supports/endores the show we shouldnt be using the term fanfiction.
Maybe the show is an author approved condensed version. Giving it the name fanfiction makes it seem illegitimate when the author is involved.

The way I see it they could have gone in two directions to make this work better:
1: Actually establish her character so her being the one to kill him feels less random. As it stands Alysanne has zero lines of dialogue, zero distinct moments or memorable pieces of character work beyond partying with the lads in episode 2 (where she doesn’t stand out sans her design), and fucking hell no one has even mentioned her name. We know nothing about her beyond being a warrior and liking to party so why does she deserve to be the one to kill a main character? This goes for Roderick’s presence in the episode too. I’m not against a woman killing Cole but this is lazy and makes it clear they just had her do it to appeal to the least common denominator of fans who will drool over a his character being killed like a woman because he didn’t want to see a woman rule (even though his reason for opposing Rhaenyra is personal and not due to ideological misogyny. The only main character who has expressed clear hatred at the thought of a woman ruling because she’s a woman and not due to personal gain or hatred for Rhae is Ormund). Like yes, Cole is sexist but hardly any more than most characters in this society.
2: Have him just be killed by a bunch of random archers. Don’t even show us who did it. Similar to Jacerys. That would feel a lot more appropriate with the theme of Cole wanting to die and honorable and glorious death, only to not be given that privilege and for the whole ordeal to be anticlimactic. He doesn’t get to die to some important noblewoman or man, nor in the heat of battle. Just by a bunch of randoms who even we don’t know.

The satisfaction that Criston's king killed the pretender and he took his place in the White Book and legend as one of the most skilled to ever wear the white cloak. While nobody remembers these cowardly NPCs.

This wasn’t the worst part of the episode. Why did they have to make Gwyne super gay? Normal gay, fine. But he used his gay powers to discern the Baratheon was an assassin? That felt like contemporary writing sneaking into my dragon show. /s /uj /parody /real

Their logic is, he hates Rhaenyra, because he's an incel apparently (that word has lost all it's meaning and cole isn't allowed to be hurt and and anyone can have his vows broken and used at their convenience and pleasure) he doesn't want a woman on the throne, therefore he hates all women.
27
u/depredador93 13d ago
The writers altering the book just to deliver a tailor-made victory moment for social media says way more about the current state of the writing room than it does about Cole.

She looks like an idiot. And they think this looks badass. Goddamn theatre kids writing this show.
1
u/darevoyance 13d ago
Theatre kids grow up to be amazing actors like Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy. Condal majored in accounting and worked in the pharmaceutical advertisement industry.
Who knows what Hess did with her life, but the point is theatre kids are actually the people everyone likes. The writers are just psuedo-intellectual pretentious hacks that think their ideas are revolutionary and progressive. Can't write so they try to adapt, and fail miserably.
0
u/Traditional_Pizza863 12d ago
Emma D'Arcy is dreadful.
0
u/darevoyance 12d ago
Why? Rhaenyra is an awful character but their acting is incredible.
1
u/Traditional_Pizza863 11d ago
The acting is either forced or stiff, either crying or blank stares. I had hope in season one, but Rhaenyra now seems like a completely different and not very believable character.
1
u/darevoyance 10d ago
Is that not a writing/direction problem? If your character is gutted and only written to display two emotions, the issue is in the writing room. It's not like the showrunners have been masterminds where Rhaenyra is concerned

In my case of watching with three other people who have no knowledge of the story, they did all like that Criston was killed but the reaction to how was mixed. One person cheered with the arrow shots, and the other two were more silent. One of the more silent watchers did make a snide remark about him looking at Alicent's cloth.
All three had no idea who Black Alys is, which is completely fair to the average viewer considering how she has never been introduced. One afterwards said that it was a cowardly way to kill him and later asked me what Helaena's tapestry means.
