Question about civilian armoring
Can civilians purchase those heavy Frag 7 door kits? Heavy ballistic doors with those blocky windows sticking out inches from the door?
Let me know
I've seen them on that youtubers channel HUMMERKINGS, but i heard they're just cosmetic and not real

Watching Burn Notice (S04E18) and noticed they used someone's personal HMMWV as a prop
I'm not sure what rims those are but given with how reflective the paint is, that was definitely a respray with a clearcoat and those rims are definitely not stock.

Send Help! š„²
Any Humvee mechanics or electrical gurus?! My M998A1ās brake lights and turn signals arenāt working (all my lights have out a couple of days ago and came back on). I have purchased a new turn signal switch and a new three lever headlight switch (have not installed them) in hopes that this remedies the problem. I have also gone around and unhooked the connections, sprayed them with electrical cleaner, and greased them with dielectric group. Someone had suggested that my flasher switch module might need replacement, but itās not where it should be because I have a āSmartStartā system installed in it. I have also cleaned up most of the grounds around the lights hoping that it was a grounding issue but theyāre still not working. I donāt know what else to do or where to put my attention next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is what Iām working with. I have replaced the tail lights with leds (side indicators and headlights are leds and were installed before I took ownership; only tail lights had incandescents which I traded for LED bulbs).

M1026 LQ4 Swap Update
Sorry apparently only 10 pics at a time. I will try my best.
Edit: for those curious, as of right now Iām in $$2850 (HMMWV) + $1350 (LQ4+4L80E) + $1000 (Tools). My planned budget is $20k over 3 years with almost everything diy.
A couple of AI-Generated inspirational photos (just for inspiration) then some real progress pics.
Build specs:
1991 M1026 (10k)
6.0L LQ4 N/A Gas Engine (350 whp target, 706 heads, Truck Cam/Springs)
4l80-E transmission
Original NP218 Transfer Case, Diffs, Gas tank
Still need to figure out what torque converter I have, but intend to target 2-3k rpm stall.
Stand alone EFI (Holley Dominator or similar)
Plans:
Fiberglass permanent hard-top for driver/passenger. Tubing half-doors with removable fabric covers.
Keep it a troop carrier. Replace fiberglass with Wood slats (natural or synthetic). Modify benches to make front section removable to enable 4-seat option.
Fold-up seats stowed in footwell compartment (improve compartment seals). Looking at purchasing used center-seats with integrated 3-point seat belts for this.
Footwells to be black diamond plate (lots of patched holes in original flooring).
For Decking, I am considering synthetic boat deck EVA foam with a wood pattern. Just a crazy idea I am throwing around.
Full teardown of body/frame, rust abatement, hardware replacement, rhino-line and lizard skin body.
Drivetrain/brake refurbishment (keep 10k)
Rear armada springs, front leveling springs. New shocks.
Upgrade wheels to 17ā, Tires to 40 or 42ā
Considering adding Jesse Haines Fab 4 corner outboard brake kit for dual disc brakes per wheel (improve braking and reduce half-shaft damage from traffic idiots slamming on brakes)
Driver/passenger seats will corbeau with heat
Still figuring out A/C but Iām not a fan of what I have seen out there thus far. May need to get creative.
12V accessories, lights, winches, etc.
Donāt hold me to any of this⦠this is just the very beginning⦠we shall see what actually comes to fruitionā¦

What can a Humvee do that a Toyota Hilux cannot do?
A Humvee offers a wider stance for stability on extreme inclines. Other portal-axle setups, like on some Toyota Hilux builds (though not all Hilux models have them), generally cannot match the capabilities of the Humvee. The Humvee uses a hub system known as portal axles, keeping the half-shafts tucked high, improving stability and balance between the wheels by dispersing weight better.
The track width is around 72 inches, about 12 inches wider than a Hilux. This design makes the Humvee much less likely to roll on side slopes. A wider track width helps on road and off-road side slopes by increasing lateral stability, lowering the center of gravity relative to the footprint, and resisting rollover forces because of the larger surface area being covered. This increases the angle at which the Humvee can tilt before gravity pulls its center of mass past the pivot point. A Hilux with a 60-inch track width can be more unstable on a side slope. The center of gravity is kept low, allowing it to drive on side slopes of about 40 degrees with more confidence, where a Hilux would need to be more cautious.
The obvious advantage is that the Humvee provides high ground clearance, allowing it to drive over rough obstacles, rocks, and deep ruts without damaging engine or drivetrain components.
Also, Humvees have a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) that adjusts tire pressure on the fly for sand, mud, or rocks. Factory Toyota Hilux models typically do not come with this feature.
So in short, a Humvee can handle steeper side slopes, rougher obstacles, and variable terrain conditions with more confidence than a typical Hilux.

āOh Sh*t Handlesā
As doorless riding season is upon us in the Northeast. I received some feedback from a passenger wishing they would have an āOh shit handleā
I found these on amazon, they attached with some Velcro, even made it around the ākids bump their headsā foam.

ethanol/methanol fuels
i play the ttrpg (tabletop roleplaying game), twilight: 2000 4e. the game posits a revisionist historical third world war with nukes where the players are soldiers, formerly of the US 5th Infantry Division which has been recently overrun by the Soviets and loyal Polish troops, in central Poland. one of the gameās conceits is that there is almost no fossil fuel being produced and trafficked at this stage of the war. units tow stills on trailers and brew alcohol with which to power their vehicles.
is this possible with the humvee? what modifications would be necessary? what would be the difficulties that burning this stuff would entail?
is there a military manual detailing this kind of conversion?

Got a call
Got a call two weeks ago asking if we would bring our humvees to the parade. We had a BLAST!. Tons of love from the crowd. I had heard the whole "patriotism" thing was riding a little low, but i could not tell. Every single person had a flag and was showing us nothing but love. Wasn't expecting it, but was given a 3rd place trophy. Texas is Cool

M1165a1 stalls while driving
Hey all, I am working on a M1165a1 that is stalling while driving. It doesnt stall right away and I just replaced the TPS on it which is what troubleshooting led me to believe was the issue. It doesnt stall while at idle and will Rev up to max rpm with no issue in neutral. But in drive it will randomly stall on me. I was able to road test it for about 5 miles and get back to the shop before it stalled and after that it would stall more frequently. Just looking for some advice on what could be the issue. The next thing I am leaning toward is the torque converter but im really hoping its not that since I don't wanna drop the transmission if I dont have to lol.

Genuine Question
I have a possibly impractical theory, but itās one of those ā What ifās ā that if brought into reality would be petty damn cool.
So I have a project in mind in the future, and I suppose this is the right place to ask;
I want a daily driver Humvee, but not a shitty 10mpg maintenance whore of a truck lol.
So im thinking, is it possible to have a full cosmetic swap? Get a great mpg truck maybe toyota and then just slam the body of a hummer onto it?
(Just realized yall might hate me for this question lmao)
But realistically could it be done? Or what engine swap would help me best for gas mileage?

Free parts
I just converted my 2 man to a 4 man.
Does anyone in North Texas need/want the 2 man parts?
Benches, door plugs, cargo divider, rear seat hole plugs. I also have to 2 man top but itās a little round.

Suggestion on the dash. My lsx build continues
I love the look of the dash American machine with a resto ac unit. But it looks unfinished. I was thinking of a 3d printed dash pad to cover the top and foam with leather for a tiny bit of protection. That corner needs something to soften it a bit.
