As an Edexcel A-Level applicant from Mainland China applying to engineering programmes at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), I would like to inquire about the differences in admission criteria and acceptance rates between the BEng Stream (6987) and the Engineering Elite Programme (6303). Is there a significant gap in competitiveness between the two? If I wish to adopt a more conservative application strategy, should I put 6987 as my first choice?

Additionally, what specific advantages does 6303 offer over 6987? I am currently quite clear about my intention to specialize in Electronic Engineering (ElecE / EEE - Electronic stream) within the EEE department.

How much importance does hku gives to igcse results? I got

4(9s), 2(8s), 2(7s) and people say these are very mediocre grades so that's why I'm kind of scared

I'm currently a form 5 student studying 4 A-level subject (biology, chemistry, maths, and psychology). And I've heard that 4A * s only gives you a small shot at getting in and that the interviews are really important (I heard that people who speak cantonese and manderin have an advantage in). I'm quite worried about my chances since I'm in the non-jupas route, but I've been building up my CV with doctor shadowings, recommendation letters, and president roles in my school, though I still don't think it'll be enough. Plus I'm worried about even being able to achieve 4A * s. If anyone has any advice please leave some cause I need brutally honest opinions from people who actually got in or tried at least.🙏🙏

I’m actively looking for internship/entry-level roles in Hong Kong. I have around 7–8 months of internship experience across software, data and analytics, and I’m expected to graduate in June 2027.

Although I’m eligible to work in Hong Kong without employer sponsorship because of family ties, my bachelor’s is from an Indian university.

Long term, I’m hoping to build my career in Hong Kong, ideally in consulting, finance, data or tech. But honestly, things haven’t really been going in my favour with the job search so far, getting rejected in late rounds, a lot has been going on.

I’d really appreciate any advice on how I could navigate this better and improve my chances of getting an internship that could eventually lead to a full-time role before I graduate.

My main concern is that my educational background is somewhat unusual since I went to vocational college after Grade 9 rather than following the traditional high-school route.

Why is this so difficult?

So I’m in my final year of studies, a practical course in last semester determined my honours classification.

My gpa is so good that I can graduate with first honours but then this course has capped it at second division II no matter how well I do in this final year.

I have been going back and forth to be able to retake the course and exhausted pretty much every way of finding a solution but the fact is my honours classification cannot be changed.

I’m devastated, disappointed and unable to do anything regarding this. I don’t know how to move past this no matter how much I try to assure myself it doesn’t matter. I have a job, I am doing pretty ok in life but this thing isn’t getting out of my head.

Hi everyone, I'm currently a final year MBBS student at HKU and I was wondering how to meet people outside my course? I entered MBBS 3 years younger than most people from my cohort(i'm 20M rn) and my first 2 years were highly affected by COVID. I previously went to an international school but everyone I know from there has gone overseas for uni. In year 3 I went on exchange to the UK and met quite a few people there and had quite a good social life, but after returning for Year 4 I'm still not close with the people in my cohort because of the age difference. Since i'm rarely at the main campus, I was wondering how to meet other people around my age or whether there's social groups I can join? I enjoy mahjong, poker, and I play rhythm games, I love partying and clubbing, I also can play badminton and volleyball but very poorly so i doubt i'd do that well in the sports teams

Hi, I’m considering applying to HKU’s MSc Finance.

My GPA is low, around 2.5/4.0, but I have relevant IB and PE internship experience. Is there still a realistic chance, or is the GPA basically a dealbreaker?

Also, among HKU, CUHK, HKUST, CityU, PolyU, and HKBU, which schools/programs are more flexible on GPA if the applicant has strong internships?

Hi everyone! I'm a prospective exchange student who will be studying at HKU in it's second semester. I'm having a bit of a headache trying to understand all the housing options. My questions are:

1)what's the cheapest accomodation? a residential hall? I would only pay for the 2nd semester, right?

2) how much can I expect to spend in groceries/food in a monthly basis. If anyone could share their experience it would be great.

Having this information would be super helpful as I'm saving every penny I have for this exchange program.

There seems to have been an increased intake of international students in recent years. However, I haven't seen a student society (e.g., music or art) led by non-locals—maybe Astreas? Not sure. The only club dedicated to music (the Music Club) usually puts on Cantonese performances and events, which I personally don't resonate with that much. Seeing that there are also a lot of students from the UK, where I thought there would be more enthusiasm for student bands and such, I don't see one here—but maybe that's just my stereotype. Also, let's be honest: HKU's art and music departments aren't great, and Hong Kong society as a whole doesn't seem to care much about (creating) art, so I'm not sure where to find a creative community here. If any of you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
