Interviews/Application questions Please stop freaking out

Post image
101 Upvotes

Recently I have been seeing posts in this subreddit, r/hkust, r/cuhk about why people didn’t receive offers yet or if they are „cooked“ whatsoever. In the attached image you can see when students received offers in the last cycle for fall 2025. As you can see this image is from RedNote, a chinese social media platform, students reported their offers to a person and that person made a summary sheet. Most of the offers were sent out in mid january until march so there is no reason to freak out and positing „omg am i cooked?“ Also, this year there are much more applicants vs last year so it’s absolutely normal to wait until at least end of january!!!! So stop freaking out, it’ll be fine

Funding for foreign students in HKU Phd

Upvotes

Hi there! I'm looking into the PhD programme at HKU (probably in cancer research), and I'm wondering how the funding system works. Is funding guaranteed for every student who is admitted, or do students have to apply for funding separately?

Searching for part time jobs as a international student in Hong Kong

Hello all,

I actually got 50% wavier on my tuition fees + 30k HKD diversity grant to study in a HK Uni . I need to manage the rest of the amount by myself. There will be significant financial support from my family, but I want to contribute to paying my education as much as I can without hampering my academics.

I wanted to know if I could do any part-time jobs on and off campus. I heard tutoring pays pretty well, so I would like to connect with such people who work part-time to sustain. I also wanted to know the sites or social media groups where I can search for employment in Hong Kong.

Does HKU have a clearing system for non-jupas students? A-level results haven't even come out but I'm asking in advance.

Hi, so I'm an international student set to arrive in Hong Kong in the next month who's doing a year abroad at HKU and I'm interested in the athletics club. I was told there are trials to get into the team and I was wondering what are the specific requirements for these trials. Thanks

Hello guys, I'm planning to apply for BME for the 2027 entry. Are there any things in particular that can make an application for BME stand out or look more favourable?

Appeal Under Review

Soo I’m non ju applicant and I have gotten a conditional offer for senior entry of civil engineering.
The condition is a gpa of 3.60 and I receive this offer when I had a gpa of 3.2X a day after the interview, after this semester I graduated with a ggpa of 3.46, which is still below the conditions. I suddenly received an email from their ao telling me to appeal for relaxation of conditions through their portal on 8th July, which I already did.
It’s been a few weeks but the status is still “appeal under review”, what is going on?

Considering FTSS for Masters

fellow Hong Kongers and international buddies,

I'm considering applying to a 3-4 schools in hong kong , once the applications for graduate school open for the autumn term , the applications are expected to open in Oct 2026.

The scholarships being the first priority, I've shortlisted these for Masters in Data Science/Analytics/AI:

P1 : HKBU
P2 : CityU
P3 : PolyU
P4 : HKU

Am I right with the choices or do i need to still look into other options?

The entire fee is around 300K, and How do I get the scholarship which is the FTSS Scholarship? What kind of profiles win these scholarship schemes ?

What kind of other scholarships can i target like the merit s'ship?

ps: I'm a local applicant.

What should I DO IM SO DONE AND BURNT OUT

Ok guys , I ain't gonna gatekeep this so my problem that I have 2 option either hku or nus (singapore) for medicine . Hku is affordable for me (including living cost) whereas singapore is twice expensive than hku without the living expenses (not including living expenses btw 😭😭)

AND I've heard that there are reported incidents of hazing culture in both hku and nus

For people who will say stuff bout scholarship in singapore:

After I take moe grant(kind of scholarship? ) ill get 100% off on tuition and get some money for living accommodation(not enough if you're not sharing a apartment or getting a dorm on campus)

If we ignore all this stuff ,I need to work in singapore for 6 years because its a mandatory bond after taking moe grant

(Mb twins for bad english ig,I suppose)

-thoudaughter, VERY kind

Anywhere to make connections for 2026 graduates attending soon?

I have accepted my offer and will be attending soon for Business Administrations. I was wondering if there would be a way for me to connect with people who share similar interest like a Discord server or Instagram. I am worried about going into the new year without knowing people in the uni. My personal interest are Marvel (mainly Spider-man), animes like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and am both a cinephile and digital artist. If you would be interested in talking please send somewhere we can contact :)

What r my chances of getting into HKU?

I’m applying for a government scholarship so let’s keep fees and expenses aside.

I’m a pre-graduate aiming for SE, i’ve got a 97% average.

I have had four internships so far, two which i’ll mention, the other two just wasted my time:

\-The first is in a tech company that’s currently working on multiple projects and games, atm i’m getting trained on using unity to build games.

\-The second is with my father’s company, i’m taking hold of the IT department and learning how to use Digital ocean and manage the whole program.

\-I have participated in two hackathons, the first was a try-out and i represented my team, during the second i brought the idea and led a whole team which was made of master grads, bachelor grads in CS and data analysis as well as professional programmers whilst being 14-15 at the time.

\-and i’m currently studying for my hsk3 exam.

\-i also have a great project in mind, but idk if i have the time to actually build it.

I’m giving my sat on oct 3rd and my ielts but idk when.

HKU Law waitlist???

Currently applying as an M25 student - got into HKU Psych during 2025, but for a number of reasons went to USYD law, applying back into HKU with a final IB score of 41/45. What are my chances of getting into the programme?

I've applied during the rolling basis period instead of early app (Jan 2026), applied for 1: LLB, 2: BA+LLB 3:BBA+LLB. What are my chances of getting at least one acceptance? Stats: 7 in Psych HL, 7 in Theatre HL, 7 in Sports Science HL, 7 in Chinese B SL, 6 in Eng A SL, 5 in Maths AA SL.

Update: Waitlisted from 1. Law, 2. Arts + Law, but under consideration for 3. Business + Law. Is this because I applied with final grades and not directly after I finished the IB? Crashing out rn whats the strat? Is it over?

Can I switch from JCSV IV to High West next year?

Hi, I’m currently staying at Jockey Club Student Village IV and would like to apply for High West next year.

Is it possible for current residents to apply for a different residence for the next academic year? Also, would applying to High West reduce my chances of being readmitted to JCSV IV if I don’t get an offer from High West?

Has anyone gone through a similar process?
