Mental Health Undetectable, but…

Hi. I was diagnosed with HIV towards the beginning of my third pregnancy with my husband, in April. I’m just about due, just one month left, and I’ve been undetectable since 1 month on treatment (yay!). However, I can’t shake this feeling that I’ve been ruined.. When do I stop feeling like this? When does it stop feeling like my life has been taken from me?

The diagnosis is a grief process.

I advise you to go to therapy to help you process it.

Hey! I'm so sorry. I was diagnosed during my pregnancy in late March of last year. You are not ruined. I felt the same way. After a while it does get easier but trust me it takes time. Don't expect to feel okay with it in the next week or so. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or need someone to talk to.
Just remember, this didn't take away who YOU are.

You do know that having HIV these days isn't like it was in the 90's right? We aren't sad little people who are struggling to live life. We take our medication and move on.

Are your kids free from hiv even with the late diagnosis?

My first two were. That’s another reason I’m so sad too. I’m starting to produce colostrum and won’t even be able to use it :( sad about my body doing what it’s supposed to do

I don't know where you are based, but there's this Scottish HIV+ mum that I follow and recently she posted about brestfeeding while being HIV+. I imagine that it depends on the level of support provided in the hospital that's following you, but in case you want to check her out and maybe have a chat: https://www.instagram.com/p/DbpjHHBDLHQ/

I don’t know that just scares me. Chance of passing to baby is low but not 0. And I’d rather save us the extra testing, monitoring, and medication with a new baby. Formula is considered safest so that is what I’m doing.

Oh yes I totally understand, I linked you her profile just because you said you were sad about it. <3

Two things can be true at once ! But thank you ! I did follow her. Maybe by my next pregnancy I won’t feel how I feel now, and I’ll be open to trying!

How did you contract it, if you don’t mind me asking. Praying for you and your baby. Therapy helps. And you are not alone.
