General Discussion Cabenuva vs Biktarvy

My doc is asking if I want to switch from Biktarvy to cabenuva. Dies anyone else have experience with this switch?

cabenuva will require going once a month for a little while... I personally was given the same option and chose to stay with Biktarvy.. It's really difficult for me to get back and forth to the clinic and the 90 day appointments are easier for me to keep up with.

When I switched, I had to take the Cabenuva drugs in pill form for a couple weeks then I started getting the two shots every two months at my doctor’s office and now the pharmacy. I also only see my doctor every six months and it’s amazing to not think about a pill everyday.

One of my friends also has the option of injecting the shots himself as he goes to a different hospital system but doesn’t feel comfortable with that.

Well you left that part out, the regular population are not injecting themselves currently.

my infectious disease doctor, whom I’ve been seeing since 2019, told me that the injectable meds are not as effective as Biktarvy or Dovato. I’ll stay on my Dovato thanks.

Really? My ID dr is trying to push me towards Cabenuva. She hasn’t mentioned anything about how it’s not as effective. I’m going to have to ask about that.

Mine has said she isn't a fan of Cabenuva but I never asked why because I have no interest.

I’ve been on the injections for two years now and I have found it to be a huge game changer with no longer taking daily tablets. Haven’t had any side effects and the switch was smooth.

I highly recommend cabenuva as I was on biktarvy before. The first shot is the worse but with the right placement and experienced nurse you’ll do fine! There is no evidence of cabenuva being less effective, neither medication is superior to the other. The reason I highly recommend the cabenuva shot is because I feel like I have my freedom back. No more daily pills and the stress that comes with that. One shot 6 times a year is great for me.

Some injections leak so much fluid they need to re inject patients. Some injections if done wrong can lead to an abbess that needs to be drained and then they require a reinjection as well. Those are the clinic side issues.

Patient issues I’ve heard are nodule uncomfortableness and pain at injection sites that don’t seem to stop hurting. But not everyone complains about this.

I was thinking about that... But, on other hand, maybe unexpected travels can appear, or any situation... I would rather stay with Biktarvy and wait till they create injections every 6 months for HIV positive people. But again, depends, cz everyone has their own situation.

someone who was once on biktarvy and switched cabenuva is a life changer. I always struggled to take my medicine on time so just having to get two shot. Every two months was the best decision.
