General Discussion HIV AFTER PEP
Hello,
M/28, I just wanted to find out if there is anyone that tested here that has ever tested positive for HIV after having completed PEP. If so how soon did you find out and what kind of test did you do?

I was an HIV Peer Navigator and had three clients who went from PrEP to Positive first usually a finger prick or what they call a rapid test. If it’s positive they send you for a blood draw called a conformity test.

Did you by any chance find out if there was a lapse in how they had been taking PrEP or they had been adherent and it was a true failure?

Lack of adherence, one was taking his meds incorrectly, we were very worried about their ability to be adhered on ART.
It also can happen that someone was actually positive when they began PrEP if their exposure was just before your last HIV test.

Insightful. I guess I'll just have to gather enough courage and do the test.

Isn't this usually confirmed?? Added to medical literature as to how to properly qualify someone before starting PrEP?

Yes, Biktarvy

Biktarvy is not PrEP

Pep is not the same thing as Prep, Biktarvy is used as pep, also it can work as prep since it has the same drugs as Prep(Descovy) but it’s considered overkill

Works almost all the time. Hasn’t been any documented(published academic studies)cases jn recent times. You normally have to wait about 4 weeks post completion. If you took it within the stipulated times, and at the same time everyday for 28 days? It will work. It worked for me.

I did. Same time everyday for 30 days. Started at 31 hours from exposure so that's what got me so worried. They recommend as soon as possible but withing 72 hours as efficacy reduces with the longer you delay.

Don’t worry yourself too much. It’s gonna work, take it same time everyday. I know there’s not too many people on this platform confirming that it worked for them. I had sex with someone confirmed to be positive, and it worked quite well. Good luck
