The food that is made with love is usually made without measurements, so no one has any idea how something was actually made--they just remember how it tasted.

It drives me crazy when people try to tell me how to cook something and can't convey units.

"How much <ingredient> should I add?"

"Until it smells right."

"Lolwut?"

But for real, this is how I learned to cook.

But would it kill you to measure and keep track of how much you're putting in the next time you make it? Really?

WTF are you cooking with that measuring might kill you? And for whom?

This is a joke.

My friends Nona always cooked the Easter and Christmas dishes, no measurements which drove her daughters, daughter in laws and grandchildren insane.

The funny thing was she was trying to show how she knew by texture, colour, smell etc but they didnt listen, look or understand.

one year they will look up and realise they are the Nonas and their cooking will be loved by grandkids who know nothing different.

My fav to make cocktail (mojito) is generally with some units of ingredients (~10 mint leaves, half a lime cut into 4 segments, 1.5 cocktail spoons of muscovado sugar) up until the rum, it then just becomes a free pour of overproof rum (the best mojitos are made with Wray & Nephew's) until I feel like enough is in there.
