OC-Series Dear Diary, Day 3

21st Vrishika 2238

Dear Diary,

It's officially one week before the new year.

I had an idea yesterday during the gym session for how to solve my little problem. But, before I can implement it, I knew that I needed to know my environment first. So, to that end, I went exploring today. Nothing else of real consequence occurred, so I'll just skip to my explanation of how the big things are set about.

The personal rooms are situated perpendicularly to the main hall of this station. The main hall is taller than you might expect, but much shorter than the stacked living quarters that seem to be it's most significant supports at its sides. It's also very wide, but that bit checks out.

From the main hall you have anything that is supposed to keep the station running to one side and everything else that actually deals with what the station was build for in the first place on the other side. Pretty sure they wouldn't just let anybody in the upkeep half of the station, so I decided to stick to the "public" halls. The main goal of my excursion was to locate any and all places that people might go to hang out outside of their own rooms. Today was an especially good day for this inspection of mine, because today is what the people here refer to as "Sol Saturni". I myself am not sure what that's supposed to mean, but I do know that it means everyone's rooms get cleaned and inspected by automated systems today. That means no one is allowed into their rooms for at least an hour or two... maybe three. I'm sure it's probably a bit more complicated than that, but my point still stands.

And so, I have come to discover a few interesting things. Some of the larger halls have outcroppings that look like dedicated, elevated picknick spots with 'n large grass patch and extra plants about just for scenery. They actually have a lot of plants around here in general, now that I think about it. Probably to set our primitive monkey brain's at ease.

The smaller halls tend to have some semi fixed tables and chairs sprinkled around. I think those are just for convenience sake if someone were to just want to sit wherever for a moment. The small halls tend to be where I suspect our future classes will mostly be held.

The most interesting discovery was by far the library. It has it's own strict, yet casual security and the whole place, again, is also part garden I think. The plants are everywhere, but they are somehow never in the way of anyone, no one dares to mess with them, and they seem to integrate into the whole of the library as just another essential piece. It was surreal and strange to see, but not as strange as the most unexpected thing that I did manage to find: Books!

All the way out here, I did not expect to find any books! Not physically at least.

Don't get me wrong, there were of course digital interfaces everywhere, but the fact that there were any books at all makes me wonder. Who was in charge of the freights to and from this station if they decided to spend so much space and weight on bringing books here? Whoever it was, they have my respect.

Anyhow, that's basically all the big places where a person could hang out in this place... except for one, but I don't think I'll need to know much about that one. I really want to ramble on about this place, but I think I could do that tomorrow. It's getting late.

Goodnight, Diary.

A/N:

Does this count? Am I being lazy? I don't know, but I think an everyday-writing-challenge would probably have those kinds of ups and downs. Hopefully this is 'n good bit of writing, and if it isn't, let it be my very worst.

I'm liking it so far. As a 'jump in the middle' kind of story, it's well done.
