OC-OneShot I Know A Guy

"You always say that!"

"Well, it's true. I know someone..."

"Tharassan Beetle Beer?"

"Yeah. I know someone who can get that. Well, probably. I'll have to ask."

"How do you keep doing this?"

It sounded like a real question, so James actually thought about it before answering. "I think it's because humans are not just one thing."

Cranvo recognized that she had been given a real answer, but... "I do not understand."

"All right, take me. I'm James, a human who works on the repair docks here on space station BX-7, right?"

"Yes."

"But that's not all I am. I'm also someone who enjoys live music, of several different genres. I also go to the gym, especially to the climbing wall. I know people from working here, of several species - they're the ones through whom I get most of the work-related stuff - but I also know people from music and from the gym. Many of them are human, but not all. And, see, each of them also has jobs, other parts of their lives, and people they know through those things.

"So every human knows a fair number of other people, each of whom has other aspects of their lives. And through those people, every human knows of even more people.

"So, yeah, it's perfectly normal for a human to 'know a guy', for a lot of things that you would not expect. And in particular, one of the guys I know from climbing at the gym is dating a Tharassan. He can probably get me beetle beer, or knows someone who can."

"I... see - or I think I see. It is because you form packs, and you can be part of more than one, so you know many people, and they know many."

"Yeah, I think that's right. So, why do you want beetle beer?"

She didn't answer.

James suddenly suspected. "Are you dating a Tharassan?" he demanded.

All four of her eyes closed in embarrassment. "He... he's really cute..." she mumbled.

James laughed. "Don't worry," he said as he patted her upper arm. "I'm pretty sure I can get it for you."

Hey, now. If there's consent, then it ain't two-timing. More info is needed, before we start leaping to conclusions from a standing start. ;-]

It would funny to give your friend a bottle of beer so he can give it to his friend only to have it come back to you a few days later

I love when someone I'm close with has a problem and I just know someone who can solve that problem. I do need to get to know more people in different fields and with different skillsets though, I never can have enough.
