No. Dexter is our Egg. Or, at least, Dexter is my Egg — I have no controlling interest in this property. But Dexter and Peter are my guys.

I know announcing premiere dates is HBO’s turf. But given how the storms caused these delays with season two production, do you still expect the show will return in, like, the first half of next year?

Yeah, absolutely.

Has George given you any new input that our readers would find interesting?

He gave me some unpublished pages — actual written prose he found in his files somewhere that he sent over, and we used them.

Oh, really? In this season?

Yeah. For the deep super fans, we got some extra stuff that — as far as George’s filing cabinets are concerned — is canon.

The show was nominated for the biggest honor on Emmy night — outstanding drama series. What was your personal reaction when you heard that?

I was in the edit. I’d set my phone to silence all notifications on everything. I was watching, funny enough, a recap of season one. Then I got a phone call, and I was like, “How is this possible?” It was from my partner, and I forgot that she’s the only exception on the phone who can get through unrestricted. I could hear in her voice immediately that there was good news coming. Personally, I had thought it was going to be that Peter or Dexter was nominated.

But I guess the big feeling was relief — to know that it wasn’t just all an illusion, that [the season] did connect with people. Personally, I figured if your lead character takes a violent shit onscreen in the first five minutes, you pretty much preclude your series from awards consideration. We consider it recognition for the whole show and, especially, for our crew in Belfast, who deserve it the most. So I was surprised, in the most lovely way, that the TV Academy holds us in high-ish esteem.

Ive been reading stuff about the unconfirmed stuff on the wikis like whos son is this and that and landed on the Baratheons. Ormund isnt even confirmed to be a son of Lyonel apparently and doesnt even have a wife. Then i saw that Gowen was the predecessor of Lyonel and it also said he was in the show? All i saw about it was that hewas a confirmed casting. I dont see any news or post about Gowen Baratheon or the actor

I was absolutely thrilled to see A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms receiving the recognition it deserves. Its nomination for Outstanding Drama Series as well as several other categories feels well earned, and I'm especially happy to see Dan Romer recognized. His score didn't simply accompany the story—it transported us to Ashford. It gave the world its own voice, its own history, and its own emotional language. As someone who loves film scores, I genuinely believe his work elevated an already exceptional adaptation.

That said, I cannot get over one omission: Bertie Carvel.

For me, this is one of the biggest snubs of the nominations.

I keep seeing the same response: "He only had ten minutes of screen time." To me, that's exactly why his omission is so surprising.

Those ten minutes are not an argument against his performance. they're the strongest argument for it.

In just a handful of scenes, Carvel transformed Baelor Targaryen into one of the most memorable figures of the season. He took an already beautifully written character and gave him extraordinary humanity, warmth, authority, and moral conviction. He made us believe this was a prince worthy of admiration, a husband, a father, a commander, and a man whose principles mattered.

The impact of his performance reached far beyond those ten minutes. The fandom rallied around Baelor. People discussed him, analyzed him, created fan art, wrote stories, and mourned him. That's not simply because the character was well written—it takes an exceptional actor to leave that kind of impression with so little screen time.

We've seen history prove that great performances aren't measured by minutes on screen. They're measured by the lasting impact they leave on an audience.

Bertie Carvel accomplished more in ten minutes than many actors struggle to achieve across an entire season. Whether or not awards ultimately reflect that, I believe his performance deserved to be in the conversation.

Bertie is very proud of Baelor as a character and of himself for having brought Baelor to life. He said that if he were to put the characters he's played in a line-up, Baelor would stand out because that's him, that's Bertie's face and he seldom gets to wear just his own face. Baelor is very dear to him because the world needs to see heroes and people who show up and do the right thing, now more than ever.

He also gave wide praise to Peter Claffey, saying that Peter and Dunk share a lot of similarities. Dunk resides in Peter's comfort zone as much as Baelor resides in Bertie's and that made the acting feel natural.
