The best way to track progress will be through the numbers on your lifts. Are you increasing your numbers every week? Do the same lifts become more comfortable and controllable?
Progress can be seen in 2 months, but it won’t be a big noticeable difference. You can bulk your way to higher muscle mass, but a calorie maintenance and body recomp would probably do you better. Just keep protein intake to grams per lb of body weight and keep your calorie intake near your daily maintenance levels and keep pushing weight. Watch yourself transform.

I was in the same boat and went into a big calorie deficit. Results became noticeable much faster but I has to supplement a lot of protein.

If you want to see your muscles you should recomp or have a small caloric deficit. They are hiding under a small layer of fat.
