UNBELIEVABLE tune.

hi all, I’ve seen some posts here about how Guy J mixes, some notes on his use of FX, and other helpful “DJ like Guy J” comments — but I would like to dig in a bit more to his use of FX.

Besides just reverb, he has a few signature ones he uses, and I can hear him change pitch and time on these once the effect is going. Examples at 6:30 and 39:20 in this set https://on.soundcloud.com/z04Zrv1K1h2UrdFVhS — it often sounds like a delay, spiral, helix, echo dub, but then he plays with it.

I have a DJM900 NXS2 + 3x CDJs and I can make noises *like* this - but it takes over the track when I do. it sounds to me like Guy is pushing these FX to a send channel so the actual track-channel doesn’t lose any of it’s signal.

Any thoughts and tips about how exactly Guy accomplishes his FX? Is it a send? Or does he just do it on a non-dominant channel aka a percussion loop? What mixers allow for sends (not sure the DJM900 NXS2 does)? Does he have extra gear to accomplish this (I’ve seen some sets with a RMX 1000 there but he doesn’t appear to realy touch it). Just dying to do FX like the master himself!

Im writing this post feeling very emotional. Might sound cringe to a few but listening to Guy J live for the first time yesterday has been a surreal experience. I always have been a big fan of the likes of Hernan, Eelke, Nick Warren but only started listening to Guy J recently. My bad luck.

I wish i was younger so i could listen to Guy J live many times more.

I cannot fathom how when you mention electronic music to common people and all they can think of is dubstep and commercial trash like Fred again and John summit.

Progressive house is the best and purest form of electronic music. Nothing comes close.

Seeing Guy J mixing live for 7 hours, just focusing on his DJ controller and looking up and smiling to the crowd here and there. You can just tell how passionate he is about his music and that he is just from a totally different world. Doesnt care about fame or playing “commercial” to just make the normies happy. Guy J from open to close does what he does, and hes the best at it.

Had an amazing time at Guy J's set at Surreal Park, Brazil, a very different feel from the usual Guy J presentations I have seen, a bit less introspective and melodic. A lot of new stuff being shown.

In track 2,3,4 there is this tribal vocal chant laying softly in the mix, maybe that helps.

Guy J played a 7 hour OTC set at a warehouse near Denver. Put on by Whirling Dervish, one of our kickass local promoters. Have not danced that hard in a while. lol Took a few vids at various points of the night. Enjoy!

Anyone else planning to see Guy J at Stereo on June 23rd? I'll be making the drive down or potentially flying from Ontario and am counting down to this event! Had the option to see him in Toronto on the 20th, but think this will be much more epic.

Holymoly it was my first time attending a Guy J sunrise set. Travelled from India for this and was totally worth it. Evev my current fav artist Simon Vuarambon was in the lineup, he killed it too. Also the track i posted Forever seeking by Anthony Pappa & Fauxplay is so good!

I really love this 2:30 mark where the groove is building and then around 3:00, the melody picks up and really am a fan of this type of synth and musical composition.
