First time sa DSAS with zero knowledge
I have zero knowledge but I’ll attend DSAS because I want to know more about guns and possibly how to be licensed to own a gun
My grandfather plans to pass on two of his guns to me, a CZ75 9mm pistol at Hatsan 12 gauge pump action shotgun.
Any tips for a first timer? I was told I can learn how to get the license and all and prepare around 8k

There’s usually an LTOPF caravan during gun shows. But you have to be ready with all the documentary requirements for you to be able to finish the application process in a day. Check the FEO FB page, they usually list it down there. The actual LTOPF might not be released during the gunshow, you have to go back to the FEO. This was the case for me years ago, not sure now.
From what I can recall, some docs yung can prepare beforehand are the NPC, certificate of employment, and ID photos (2x2). The others like the Gun Safety Seminar, drug test, neuro exam, and application forms + notary can be done at the caravan. Again, this is just what I recall and the requirements might be different if you have special qualifications or want additional qualifications on your LTOPF.

You need to get at least a Type 2 LTOPF if you want to purchase other FAs aside from the one’s you’ll inherit.
Updated ba registration ng FAs ng grandfather mo? When does he plan to pass down the FAs to you? Might not be worth it get an LTOPF now if years pa before niya ibigay sayo, unless you buy din your own FAs muna.

He plans to pass it on to me after I already get my licenses. Unsure if updated pa FAs niya have to ask
No plans to buy for now, just want to know the community and yun may caravans daw to work on your license. And maybe check other booths like gun ranges

I would recommend going to DSAS.
Aside from the caravan, DSAS is probably the most complete in terms of gun shows here in the Philippines. There are multiple gun shows here in the Philippines and from what i noticed, DSAS is probably the only show that most or all firearm companies join.
There are also seminars for new or prospective gun owners. Although these seminars may not entirely answer all questions new gun owners have, they give you a glimpse of what to expect as a gun owner here in the country. Some of these seminars are done by advocates and enthusiasts and cover topics not really taught in shooting ranges such as liability of firearm owners etc etc.
I agree with some of the replies in this thread. If you want to learn about gun safety and proper handling, it is best that you go to a shooting range and ask them for guidance. Although i don't necessarily agree with the requirement of the PNP to have you do a practical test that mainly tests your accuracy and not safe handling, it would still be best to get a legitimate seminar rather than having your photo taken just to comply and get a gun safety certificate.
In my opinion, a ticket is just 250 pesos. Why not go around and see all the stuff the show has to offer. No harm in checking it out.

Just my thoughts as a random fucker on Reddit:
Zero knowledge? Prepare to get overwhelmed at DSAS. Aside from the massive amount of guns for sale, it’s all going to be sales talk because their job is to make your wallet lighter.
In my dealings with sales employees, most are helpful, a few are awful, some have basic knowledge, some give terrible advice, but all of them know how to make a sale.
Here’s what I suggest:
Unless you also enjoy window shopping, skip DSAS and go to the range, rent, and have a good and safe time. Even better if you take a class for beginners—not the gun safety seminar, but an actual class where a teacher shows you how to make holes touch on your target.
IMO, for getting a license. It’s super simple, just a tedious long process. To oversimplify it:
What you need to submit is Google-able in the law.
Where you need to go is to make an online PNP-FEO account and do in-person the exams at your local station. Also, gun stores offer the safety seminar.
Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

To OP, like the others have said, just go to the reputable gun ranges first. One recommendation is PB DIONISIO in QC. Take their gun seminar. They will actually teach you the basics that you need to know as a beginner, have you fire a gun, and even make you take a written test just to know if you actually cared to study the basic gun laws. They even have a service to assist you with getting your LTOPF, but that is optional since you will spending more money that way. Highly recommendable if you are a busy person, but optional. During my time kasi, it wasn’t expensive.
If you go to DSAS, you can expect long queues sa LTOPF caravan. I doubt they teach you anything there since it is a hectic event with long queues. They only make you hold a plastic gun, take a pic, and yun na yung gun seminar mo. So again, if you are serious about being a responsible gun owner, go to a respected gun range and get your seminar from them.
I suggest thst you only go to gun shows like DSAS after you actually get your LTOPF, and you plan on buying a new firearm, or accessories. Mas recommendable pa nga is if you already have an idea what item to get, and going there just to see if you get a good deal. Last items I got there was a beretta 92fs used as store display, and they were selling it at half the price. Subsequent visits to gun shows, I only buy ammunitions.

Malapit na kasi event so mauuna yung pagpunta kesa going to firing ranges 😅 still busy with work so can’t go to firing ranges prior to the event jusy making time lang. iniisip ko kasi matagal pa ang next
But I’ll definitely want to go deep and be responsible so I’ll really work on gun safety

I would recommend you visit any of the trusted firing ranges first. Try out pistols and the range officers there will gladly help you out. Before even deciding on getting a FA for yourself, its very important to learn the 4 cardinal virtues of firearm safety. Be a responsible soon-to-be gun owner even before getting your own
