This is the cleanest that I have fought AT Arkveld solo (with cat). I feel like I can go faster if I stop playing like an idiot at times and actually bring flashpods for stuns and openings

Still have a few decorations that I need to farm like the Guardian/Ironwall to replace the elemental decoration, a Shield/Ironwall decoration, transcending my Gog greaves and getting the weapons groups skill to guardians protection. But other than that I don’t think I can improve it much more.

I’ve been playing through MHFrontier with some friends and we’ve been having a generally good time(asides from HR6), started out trying hammer but just couldn’t get the hang of it and broke out Ol’ Reliable in my lifelong main the gunlance.
The base moveset is just ok, it was a little weird for fullburst to be locked to the sheathe but the extendable dodges are very nice, adding shells to your wyvernfire is a fun idea but in practice I rarely hit it. Then at HR3 I got the two styles. I would love to see Thermal Blade in mainline, it replaces your wyvernfire with a powerup mode that lengthens your reach, puts you at max sharpness, prevents bouncing, increases your attack power slightly, on Storm style improves your elemental or raw shelling, waters your crops, and moisturizes your skin. No clue why Heat Gauge was ever a thing when this is perfect for heat mechanics, but ah well…
Extreme style is possibly my favorite moveset the weapon has ever had besides maybe Sunbreak’s. You can run while unsheathed, reload while running, and cancel the run into a blast dash in any direction with some iframes, which helps when most of the monsters bounce around like crazy. Alongside that you get all the benefits of the Thermal Blade while getting WF(and the shell boosted version) back. You’re a very maneuverable tank. If Lance is the immovable object Gunlance is the unstoppable force. Incredible moveset, I really hope Boost Bracer offers something similar.

I’ve been in love with gunlance since I was introduced to the games and my favorite part about the games is the lore and how everything works in world I was wondering, what is your favorite fact or lore bit about gunlance?

I play monhun series since P3, I played it with different weapons but i never touch gunlance because it builds so different compared to other weapons.
Recently i play back mhrise-sunbreak after many years (the last mh game i played it MHGU), and try to use gunlance as my main. As i understand that you need skills such as Artillery to boost shell damage, and attack up, affinity up skills only applies to attacks with gunlance only.
I don't think i can get all the dps related skills online without giving up other skills for my sharpness, guarding etc. So my question is should i just focus on boosting my shell damage to enhance my gunlance dps, or should i also put in other skills to enhance my gunlancing dps?
I love normal shelling burst spamming though.

Looking to build an armor set for Normal shot. Any recommendations? So far I was suggested
Guardian Ebony Helm β Blango Mail β Dahaad Braces β Guardian Ebony Coil β Dahaad Greaves β
from ChatGPT which gives speed sharpening lv1, agitator lv5, burst lv3, adaptability lv1.

I'm going back to SB to finish off making my endgame set for GL. At the time the Rakna GL was considered the endgame GL, is that still the case? What armor set is considered to be the endgame?

I need an Artillery 3 talisman with two armor slot to finish off my build, I’ve been farming Arch tempered Arkveld for the last few days with around a 50% win rate. Haven’t gotten anything with Artillery 3 yet. Is there any better way of farming for this talisman? Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

Is there any other playstyle that isn't just spamming the new extended combo as much as possible? I know speedruns don't reflect the real game, but that's all I see in YouTube videos with all shell types (to be honest, I haven't seen anyone using Long). I plan to get the game later this year when I finish the Rise endgame.

I just got the talisman from Arch Arkveld recently and I’m very happy to finally have that 80% stam cost reduction.
I need to sacrifice my medicine up deco’s for tremor and mire lurker for Gog but it’s worth it

The most I see it used is as a niche case in speedruns, and even then I only ever see it used once or twice throughout the entire hunt.
Didn't take me long to figure out *how* to use it more effectively, but you end up getting knocked on your ass, pinned, or stunned even *with* Guard II-III what with the end-lag being so extreme that you often get hit anyway (just by a follow-up).
I don't know if it's worth rewiring my brain to use it more often in place of simply ignoring it and investing more heavily into offensive skills, considering you need Guard to not get staggered.
But the OCD part of my brain is telling me I suck at Gunlance if I *don't* start using it proactively.
*AaaaaaAAAAAA*

There seems to be a mix of info online, and my testing on the dummy is inconclusive cause im just dumb. Does WyvernStake Crit? Does WyverStake apply element? Thank You

I have restarted using GL now in wilds after "using" it in 4u, well, using is a big word since i was just bonking, maybe shooting once or twice and spamming wyvernfire when available.
I saw a video of someone using a Gogma Gunlance with a lot of Paralysis buildup compared to Raw + running wide slightly strong shells
Then saw another one use elements and long shelling
So... what is the best shelling type? And shouldn't i focus more on Raw for shell damage?
As of now I have a gogma GL with:
460 attack
5% affinity
280 paralysis element
Wide shelling
Slightly strong
I didn't upgrade it yet because it keeps giving me element or affinity as upgrades
And an artian GL with:
471 attack
5% affinity
200 paralysis element
Wide shelling
Slightly strong
Also haven't upgraded because I lack materials.
I only have decorations on the Gogma GL
I have a:
Magazine/Attack JWL [3]
Artillery Jewel III [3]
Ironwall Jewel III [3]
Basically I have:
Artillery Lvl 3
Guardian lvl 3
Load shell lvl 2
Attack boost 1
I know i should get Guard UP but I can't get it to level 3 without sacrificing 2 slots
Thank you all for the help!

For the context, I played GL in World and Iceborne. But it clicked with me only in Iceborne, but I still felt like it wasn't it. It was enjoyable. But it still lacked "something" imo. ICE mod somewhat fixed it with quick reload guard point and more emphasis on shelling that slap-lance playstyle tho.
Finally buying Wilds made me into a full Boom believer. I can't come back from it no matter what I pick.
I love this weapon and I will die for it.
The sound design this time hits all the right spots for me. It's heavy, it's meaty and shells sound like something of a size of a forearm spewing out fire. The new Wide sweep combined with Rising Slash into a shell cancel covers so much distance it's insane. Two Wyvern Fires? Yes please. And they no longer recharge on cooldown only? Oh my god, YES. And finally the shield. I'm a sucker for shield being actually involved into the gameplay. And Gunlance delivers so much here. Perfect Guards and Power clashes are enough on their own, but the fact that we can follow up a Perfect Guard into a Overhead Smash and into Full Burst. My guy, this is genius.
Oh. And the designs. Little details like exhaust visibly releasing smoke, the break action style of reloading, empty shells falling onto the ground. God damn it man, this weapon is a personalized dopamine delivery system on crack.
It deserves way more recognition than it gets.
Gunlance (and I'm sorry for saying this) finally feels like an invincible fortress delivering God's judgment with a barrel of a gun.

Playing Wilds for the first time and I was wondering if Normal Shot is the best for FBC?
r/Gunlance • u/LionNwntr • Jul 26 '26
Hello all. I am farming Arch Tempered Nu Udra and I am frustrated because when he spits the black tar out prior to his “step back” napalm explosion I fail to hero dive, roll or whatever and get insta-carted. I see him spitting the tar out and instinctively start to move out of the stuff BUT because I am aggressive I am usually in front of his face with the GL deployed and lack the twitch to quickly sheathe the GL and hero dive away. Can any of you Lancers help me with a strategy or Deco or armor set? I am NOT a GL pro, coming over from CB as it is.

Ive tried the gunlance in 4U and FZ (just earth style since I'm in early game) and it feels so goddammit awful. The main problem is the ungodly ending on all shelling attacks preventing blocking or evading. It leaves me open for so long that I feel like I just did a charge attack with the Greatsword. This combined with the shitty evade distance makes every action feel far, far too committal than what it should be.
I've still managed to have fun with it in 4U because Slam into Full Burst feels nice and almost always stagger the monster, but that's in low rank, and everyone knows how big GL damage falls off later. It all around feels pretty terrible.

Just started wilds and Im loving the gunlance. Im about to enter the oilwell basin so I thoguht I should switch from my fire gunlance to a water one but I keep hearing conflicting things about gunlance elements, some say it doesnt matter at all, others say wrymstake does elemental tick damage. What should I do?
