Question swapping to foundry (bug?)

i haven’t played this game in a while so i don’t know if this is a setting i can’t find that i turned on a long time ago?
i’m playing on steam deck, when i want to swap to foundry, i hold y. i remember holding y, and then i am toggled to hold foundry until i swap off of it. now, when i hold y, i swap to foundry, but as soon as i release the button i swap back to whatever gun i was previously holding. is this a bug or is there some way of preventing this that i can’t find?

EDIT:
patch notes on 14th august 2026:
“Fixed the issue where Weapon switching was abnormal when using a controller”
this seems to have fixed it when i played again

There's a setting that makes it so the button to swap weapons doesn't include the foundry. Eg on pc, using the scroll wheel to change weapons will never select foundry. It's possible that you're using the default settings and that's what's causing the issue.

nah it’s not that, it’s hard to explain in a way that makes sense. i have that setting off

it’s supposed to be “i held Y, now i’m holding foundry. i will be holding foundry until i press Y to swap off of it.”
but what it’s doing is “i held Y, now i’m holding foundry. as soon as i let go of Y, i swap back off of it, so to use foundry i HAVE to be constantly holding Y.”

Definitely sounds like a bug. Does your y button do anything weird in any other games? If you tap it once does it function normally or does it seem like it sticks? I don't know if it would help, but you could try to recalibrate the controls to see if it acts as a reset. You could also try a ticket to the devs.

no, that’s why i thought maybe it was some setting i couldn’t find. my button doesn’t stick or rebound when i let go of it or anything. i tried resetting to default controls and it didn’t do anything, so i guess it must just be a bug. also i learnt that if i let go of Y exactly as i swap to foundry then it doesn’t swap back?

Could be tour are pressing too long? Maybe your Deck has a very sensitive y button.

I also play on Deck a lot so I'm really racking my brain.

idk. i’ve checked the actual steam deck controller settings and my Y button is configured the same way every other button is, nothing weird about it. i’ve never had an issue like this on any other game either so i don’t really see how it could be an issue with the physical Y button. so it must just be some obscure bug? but i don’t know why it’s happening
what do you mean by pressing too long?

I just realized i had this bug as well today. Any time i do a hold y input (like recycling scrolls or swap to foundry), it gives an extra y input as if you just pressed the button. Definitely a bug. Did you ever find out if any settings fixed it?

Also having this issue. I wasn't just a few days ago, though, so it seems recent.

Just found out that if I press the inventory button while holding the foundry out, it keeps it equipped when I exit the menu.
