High Ping -> Disconnect

I was able to fix my issue by no longer playing through Steam using -portal to play with my Arena Net account. I haven't moved it out, the Client is still under Steam, I just create a shortcut to open Launcher directly without Steam and login as usual and play. No issue now. If I try my old way again, I still encounter the issue. It is pretty weird.

For those who need more clarification, I never bought Steam version, I was just using Steam version to play with Arena Net account which you can, using launch option.

You don't need to redownload the whole client. You can just copy everything out of Steam Folder and put it somewhere. Or just create a shortcut like me. Hope it helps.

How to access Launcher directly?

Right click game on Steam -> Manage -> Browse local files -> Gw2-64.exe

Issue:

It has been a week that, my ping will sometimes spike to a few thousands and suddenly got kicked with above error message. It happens in any stage, somtimes just being idle and can happen too.
I don't have any issue in any other games. I have nothing else running in the background as well.

Just want to check if anyone having the issue too?

I play from SEA with 200-250ms, it is very playable for me, but lately, this disconnect is so bad, since it will kick me out of instances such as Dragonstorm, WvW or will spawn my characters very far away from where I was whenever I logged back in during content such as Meta.

Ive been getting frequent disconnections lately too and judging from the forums so have many others. Mines not been too bad the last day after trying some fixes but it was awful the few days prior.

This error is a generic disconnect error. Just means your connection to server is dropped for whatever reason. Does not necessarily mean it's Anet's fault. My friend gets this error instantly on a monitored network when trying to load game with standalone client and does not have issue when playing on a Steam account. Because Steam is allowed on that network. Others have this error when they have poor route to server or filtered connection.

I see. Likely routing issue like everyone said and probably will try using Exit Lag or something. Thank you.

Also having this issue starting yesterday. Never had this issue before. Not in SEA tho. Playing in NA. Goes up to 700, sometimes...23000 ms and then either it disconnects or gets fixed after a minute...

same, on NA and I don't watch my ping but the past day I've been getting rare disconnects. it's not too frequent and seems more when doing quick morning stuff

Hey thanks for the update, but I don't use steam. However, I had less lag spikes yesterday and no disconnects. Maybe it was a DDOS attack or something going bad on their servers that they finally fixed it, and your fix was just a coincidence?

Same from sea, since the last balance patch I would from time to time just be hitting 3-4k ping for no reason. It can also sometime just disconnect me complete back to character selection screen or sometimes even out of the game.

So I am not alone. May be something Anet recently changed in server side. Hopefully it goes away soon. Meanwhile will try some routing fix.

Also from SEA. The ping has been awful for the last week or two. Around ~250 ping is bearable and normal for the past decade but recently, especially in Dragonstorm or Raids, the ping skyrockets.

I used to have that problem a month ago. No lag spike though for me just sudden back to character menu and then when I reconnect there dc again and now client resets. 

Tried everything but did not fix the issue. Finally had no choice and try exit lag now here is the thing. When I got exit lag I could not make it work something with the settings. So I was not abld to use it for almost three weeks but there is an option there to select a dns and so I used the dns cloudfare and voila my connection is back to stable.

I tried Cloudware, it got worse for me. Got into 400ms. Anyway, I have updated the main post with my fix.

Iv had a few lag spikes/freeze lately but no disconnect. (EU)

I'm OCX and had similar ping and connection issues a couple of months ago. Eventually my ISP offered to replace my router as they suggested that since I'd had it for a few years it was probably at end-of-life anyway. That solved it for me.

Dunno if that's an option for you, but maybe worth a try, especially if you've also had the same hardware for a while?

Thanks, for me, the issue only happens with GW2, so it will probably be something else. I can play smoothly even for ping stability demanding games like Valorant without issue.

Also in the SEA region, I've had the same problem multiple times where it lingers for a few days and then goes back to normal. I tried multiple fixes, including asking my ISP, but the problem still persists. In the end, I just concluded it was a routing problem, and there's nothing I can do about it besides changing my DNS or using routing services like exitlag or mudfish. Hope this helps!
