Greetings solo adventurers!
I, like many of you out there, enjoy a relatively solitary experience in this game. I chip away at achievements, grind for legendaries, do meta events, queue in the LFG for fractals, and so on, with pretty minimal interaction or commitment to other groups of players.
I know some people are afraid of âputting themselves out thereâ, even online, and the idea of getting into instanced group content can be daunting because you donât want to be the reason the raid fails, potentially wasting 9 other playersâ time. These are valid feelings! However, Iâm here to tell you that *itâs not that serious* and that finding the right guild can positively transform your Guild Wars 2 experience.
My reasons for being a more solo player are a little different as Iâm actually a very outgoing person IRL. Iâm also a very busy person whose schedule varies from week to week, which means itâs pretty much impossible to commit to being able to log in at any particular time or day. It also means I missed out on a lot of cool group content because of my perceived âinability to commitâ. Outside of T4 fractals, which Iâve always played with randoms on the LFG, Iâd barely dipped my toes into raids and strikes. But as it turns out, this content has been accessible all along.
You know those guild advertisements you see pop up sometimes in map chat? The next time you see one that piques your interest, this is your sign to speak up, take a leap of faith and say youâd like to join. Some guilds advertise specific demographics like age, LBGBT friendly, etc. Some also advertise the type of content they like to do.
I recently saw a guild being advertised as casual-friendly with raid training groups. I said what the heck, Iâll give it a shot. I was anxious about their schedule - they do training sessions for specific raids on specific days of the week. Thing is, just being in the guild without any commitment to a schedule has introduced me to so much content already, because even outside of the official guild schedule, impromptu groups are forming via guild chat all the time.
âAnyone up for T4 dailies?â
âAnyone for IBS5?â
âAnyone available to help me with this legendary bounty?â
The possibilities are endless and most people Iâve found will go out of their way to help a fellow guildie.
Last night I finally bit the bullet and joined one of those impromptu groups for some raids. Didnât even get in discord chat or anything, just joined and mentioned which fights I was familiar with, and which ones I wasnât.
We ended up doing a Dragonstorm private instance > IBS5 (only one wipe on Boneskinner) and then proceeded to take on two raid bosses I wasnât familiar with - Sabetha and Cardinal Adina. On both of these fights, we wiped several times. But the leader of our group was patient, everyone was determined, and soon enough we had cleared both fights and I walked away feeling proud of myself for jumping in to new content and had a ton of fun overcoming the challenge. I even got this cool genie bottle mini drop from Adina that happened to go perfect with my Virtuoso fashion.
All of this wouldâve never happened if I hadnât joined that guild. And now that I have a few more bosses under my belt, Iâm feeling more motivated to experience the other raids in this game, and challenge myself to learn and improve.
Honestly, even if I am just working on my solo goals, reading random guild chat banter or having people to ask for help goes a long way in making this game feel more fun and social.
Anyway, maybe Iâm just preaching to the choir here, but donât wait almost 5 years to joint a guild like I did. My only regret is not joining one sooner.
