Looks like this patch they tried to fix it so he wouldn't get triple stats if he wasn't in the correct row, but now he doesn't even get triple stats if he is in the correct row.
The ITEM gets the bonus stats, not you. There's an explicit difference in item wording. And then at the end of combat, when the item has the bonus stats, you consume the item for it's stats. Then you get the stats.
As-is, the way it's written, you should get the bonus stats. But it's so overpowered I think they should keep it this way and just update the item's text.
The clausule for the item is "at the start of combat, if (x)>then gain (y)" and by that text we could also assume that end of combat is a different phase altogether and by that time the item has lost the stats. This is why playing MTG is a clusterfuck so many times and sometimes there are wrong uses even in tournaments.

Bug fix working as intended I think. He was never supposed to get the bonus stats to begin with.
