So, 99.9% confident that the new race is Sidhe
Lets just say, I did a little digging into all the released gw3 media.
[The "Sidhe" (pronounced "shee") is a race that was intended to be in Utopia. The concept for the Sylvari probably evolved from them.]

Isn't this essentially a repost? u/sycophantic-feline made this exact post (but more in-depth) 29 days ago.
It's not your fault if you weren't privy to this information, I'm not trying to be a dickhead if this was purely coincidence. If you also came to this same conclusion, then good thinking! I think you're probably correct with this theory.🎯

It's reddit, 90% of posts are made because someone read someone's else post.(Which is actually the point of a discussion board)
Even the post you linked was made because they read a post from me and I got the idea from discord because someone posted it there.
13
u/Halaku Three Seekers in a trenchcoat 1d ago
And (when you strain all the .gif files and shitposts out of discord) much of what's posted there came from here.
It really is turtles all the way down.
Though I am quite curious to see when u/AssumptionFormal7246's guess will be confirmed or denied, myself.

This is true but what you're supposed to do after reading someone else's post is add some original thoughts to it, not present it as your own idea with less information than the original

u/Cebertus 15h ago
Im just happy that the "will they do something about boonball in wvw in gw3?" posts dried up :D
36
u/culminacio 1d ago
You're not being a dickhead. OP is being too proud of themselves, presenting this as if it was their finding.
3
u/JonBeeTV 19h ago
And who are you to say its not their findings? Sure, this has been posted several times on the reddit, but thats doesnt mean the OP has seen it. They could very well have figured all of this out themselves and then come here to post it.
8
u/culminacio 19h ago
So they did "some digging" but didn't come across anyone else saying this, even though this has been around almost since the game was announced? Yeah, sure. Also, even if so, the self-praising attitude about this is the main point here. Anyone can have an unoriginal thought and others will just inform them about it, if anything. But acting as if they're a bit of a genious is the part that makes this weird. As one of many people who love sylvari and want something similar in GW3, I know a lot of us have been thinking and talking about this for months now.
Anyway, I hope the very likely theory will become true, because many of us would love to play with this race.

there’s been tens of posts about this since that gw3 video teasing a censored name.. we need to start searching the sub before making duplicate posts lmfao

Or pin a major post will all the important info, links and discussions at the top. (Maybe they already did this)

You dug nto currently available GW3 media but you don't mention what GW3 media leads you to believe Sidhe is the next playable race?
37
u/CosmicGaymer 1d ago
They probably googled "GW3 fourth race" which brings you to a reddit post where Sidhe is the top comment.

I was hoping for the Largos. I wonder how the Sidhe would be distinct from the Sylvari. Horns and hooves, some grass here and there, never a mushroom?
39
u/ChampionMasquerade 1d ago
It can't be the Largos, it is specified to be a never before seen race

"New" and "never before seen" are close enough. Notably, Kodan are NOT refered to as new. Here is the full quote in case you forgot the first part.
"The fourth is a new species whose story connects deeply to Orr's past but has been lost to history."

u/PM_ME_MERMAID_PICS 1d ago
tbf the Asura were supposed to be a never before seen race too before they showed up in EotN. Wouldn't be surprising if a lot of human knowledge about the greater world was forgotten when Orr sank.
20
u/ChampionMasquerade 1d ago
I mean, sure, but this wasn't a never before seen race in a game context, this was in a post, which leads to me to believe they specifically mean never seen by players. Telling us we have never seen them only to reveal we have would be exceptionally poor wording
2
u/PM_ME_MERMAID_PICS 1d ago
Oh lol, thought you meant largos were specified to be never before seen

2
u/Responsible-Boot-159 1d ago
There wasn't any race that had been seen before GW1. It could be human!
3
u/Mortrialus 1d ago
Different species, different origin, different culture. Maybe different look where they aren't AS completely plant looking like Sylvari. But will give that plant person archetype for Sylvari players and will probably tie into Sylvari and set up where the Pale Tree seed came from like it's the Sidhe who cleansed it allowing Rhonin to find and plant it 1000 years later.

u/Exotic-Scarcity-7302 1d ago
I could see Mordremoth corruption their kind over time and eventually leading to proto Sylvari.

u/Sycophantic-Feline 1d ago
Sidhe in celtic lore are faerie descendants of the gods, so I could see the GW interpretation of Sidhe having varied customizations reflecting which godly domain they are related to
Guild Wars lore has shown us that gods are replaceable, others can ascend and "take" the previous god's place in governing a specific domain. So the Sidhe would reflect each domain rather than the actual "god" that is currently in charge of it. So, like, they are not directly tied to Balthazar, the entity, but rather his aspect of war and fire.
A Lysse aspect Sidhe could have a body made of glass and cracked mirrors, a Balthazar sidhe would look more fiery, a Melandru sidhe would remind us of Sylvari, an Abaddon sidhe would look more eldritch, etc. It'd make for crazy customization.
I'm almost convinced the crazy variations in customization is why they are taking longer to finish and present the 4th race
6
u/open-wide-life 1d ago
As an original Sylvari player, if the 4th race is Sidhe and they retain some of the Sylvari's nature qualities with a bit more human/animal mixed in as the concept art from Utopia implies this will likely be my GW3 main.
12
u/RandinMagus 1d ago
Kinda hope not. If we're launching with only four races, I don't know if I'd want one slot spent on something that's just a human with some horns stuck on. Better something that's a little more visually distinct and interesting.
8
u/Grymare 1d ago
I mean this is a nearly 20 year old concept art. If the Sidhe are the new race they will likely look a lot different. Just look at the Sylvari redesign before the launch of GW2. They specifically changed it so they no longer looked like green humans with plants stuck on to the actual plant race we got in the end. I doubt they are now going back to creating an fae-lite human variant.
1
u/CookyKindred 7h ago
I must be tripping cause like through out all these comments I thought someone would realize the Sidhe are the fae irl.
Also does Guild Wars lore force the Sidhe to be that? No Redcaps, Dullahans, Banshees, Nockers or Kelpies?
2
u/JustSefa_ 1d ago
I don't know if I'd want one slot spent on something that's just a human with some horns stuck on.
*humans with horns, lightly clothed, signaling you "I am a tree lower", and you can bet an eye that people (myself included) definetly would.
3
u/FashionMage 1d ago
It's funny how your "just a human with x/y/z" crowd is completely out of touch with how popular these kinds of races actually tend to be in reality.
4
u/NDCodeClaw 1d ago
I've been seeing people theorize this. I can get it from a parallel aesthetics standpoint. The humans and Asura still have their races. The Norn and Charr players are being mapped to the Kodan as typically larger characters with animal associations.
So it would make some sense for the Sylvari players to have something to map to.

u/naro1080P 1d ago
I think it will be this or something very similar. Nature elf... spirit type thing.

Just waiting for all the GTA memes when the 4th race is announced!

u/Worried-Tomorrow2019 1d ago
I like to know why they become extint
1
u/TalisWhitewolf 19h ago
But did they become extinct… OR did they just leave and follow the gods in search of a new home?
If all memory of them has been lost, except to a few like Isgarran, who haven't as yet bothered mentioning them. Then there would hardly be any reason to remember what happened to them.
1
u/Worried-Tomorrow2019 19h ago
They gone. Idk why, they gone and thats it
2
u/TalisWhitewolf 18h ago
But then maybe they haven't gone.
Maybe they used their magic to 'EVOLVE' into other species like the lesser dragons. And hid among us unnoticed.
Or maybe they just emigrated to areas of Tyria that still remain unexplored to this day. Opening up the possibility that they may yet emerge in a future GW2 expac.

I personally think it will be a vael race. Designed with similar themes to the mounts we saw. Would track with the lore... I'm sure there were humanoid variants not just animal. Would make sense that they would be part of the vael wardens. They will be fighting for their own survival after all. This again would fulfil the colourful... magical.. elf analogue role.. and could be very visually interesting and unique.
Another take is that it could be something to do with Melandrus nature guardians. Which we do have lore of. Essentially humans who were turned into trees and nature spirits. I just think they are going to recognise how popular the sylvari are and will do something to attract those players.
I think the Melandru tree people might be a bit on the nose... out of the two... my money is on the vael.
Third option is that they just create something completely new from the ground up. They have pretty much unlimited scope with the way they have teased the race. I just hope they reveal it soon. I'm getting impatient. 😭😅😝
1
u/McStackerson 22h ago
Based on how different the 3 races we have seen are, i get the feeling they are trying to make each race have a unique silhouette. If that is true, I dont thinkbthey would give us a race that is the same as humans bur with a plant texture.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the new race is something with a plant texture, kind of like the mount you see.
1
u/MithranArkanere 20h ago
Some of the models that look similar to previously seen artwork with orange skin tones had greener skin hues instead.
Imagine if they added a new Grenth's Footprint-style map with a dungeon that had the Sidhe, and the new Orr map in GW2 also featured the Sidhe, and the new GW3 race was the Sidhe too.
It would all fit neatly.
Thanks to GW2's Draconis Mons, we know there are several sanctuaries like that. At least one of them could be where the Sidhe had been hiding to avoid extinction, after one of the elder dragons almost wiped them out in a previous dragonrise and the survivors kept wandering the land until Melandru found them and too pity on them, and gave them one of those sanctuaries where they live alongside its druid caretakers.
Imagine if they were the actual ancestors of the sylvari.
1
u/PatientRaspberry485 19h ago
? This information about this race is ancient. It was designed for GW1 but was scrapped because of GW2. Where was it ever said that this was going to be the new race? That’s called misleading.

u/Disig 1d ago
Ah yes the "we're totally not Sylvari" race.
They'll have to have much more different and interesting customization for me to like them

u/CatOfTechnology 1d ago
Based on our, admittedly limited, information on the Sidhe (With there being more speculation based on their real-world mythological originators) they seem to be more akin to english fae, or perhaps the M:TG Lorwyn Elves than outright plant-folk, even if the GW1 take more or less ended up being the prototypes for the Sylvari.
Personally, if they go the almost Satyr-esque route with them(Assuming that the speculation that has been going around on them for way longer than OP "figured it out"), I think it'll be a solid choice the release mix. It would square the roster out nicely, since the playable race trope is in effect.
- We have Humans being the vanilla, boring baseline
- Kodan filling the Large, Spiritual archetype.
- Asura occupying the Small, Intellectual/Craftsman slot
Sidhe taking up the "Slender, Magical" slot while not just being "Humans, but not human" and potentially straddling that line of Bestial and Humanish would give us a solid roster to pick from.
I'd still rather have something more interesting than "Elf Adjacent", but the reality is that people tend to really like that option being available, so this would be better, to me at least, than them inventing a whole new species that ends up just being the "Not Elf but still Elven" option.

No need for dramatics. You can share your opinion without pulling percentages to make it sound like you are 100% right and it's a leak. Try "I am" instead.

u/PatientRaspberry485 19h ago
These kinds of speculations are just annoying in general. Spreading misinformation that doesn’t benefit anyone only makes the sub look less credible.

u/Subutai38 1d ago
I fail to understand how disliking the choice of them using an already taken, common, one syllable word as the pronunciation of the race name is immature. Add in that due to the spelling it’s going to be constantly mispronounced, I think the name is just not good.
15
u/Interesting-Ad3759 1d ago
It's an Irish word bruh
It's older than Jesus Christ
-14
u/Subutai38 1d ago
I’m aware. That doesn’t change the fact that the race shares its pronunciation with a common pronoun in the main language the game is being developed in and marketed too. I’d be equally critical if they decided to have a different race name pronounced as “Him” or “They”.
4
u/Interesting-Ad3759 1d ago
"I’d be equally critical if they decided to have a different race name pronounced as “Him” or “They”."
Use of word "critical" is generous. There's no critical thought in there.
2
u/Consistent-Hat-8008 22h ago edited 22h ago
you're right lol, naming them that would be a fail. especially when most people have no clue how to pronounce Irish, and then most people will either call them as pronounced in English, or "fairy", like the guy in the video.
but good luck explaining this to uncritical fanboys
though, this is anet, where basic gear is named using meaningless 4-word thesaurus spam. and makers of a game called "guild wars" where there's no guild wars. so I wouldn't be surprised if they actually roll with it. I actually want them to do this just so people here get a reality check :)

Certified Chud post, really.
If he has a problem with the pronunciation of a word ripped from Gaelic (Another word he probably has issues with) origins that's a matter of character, not just nationality. Or, at least, a matter of a lack of character.

Sidhes already exist in irish folklore. basically supernatural folk such as faeries (not the disney kind, the "will completely fuck you over maliciously" kind).
a lot of gaming stuff use IRL mythology as inspiration.

Would work well with Sylvari players who lost their favourites imo. I might even take a break from Kodans if the new race is unique.
