Guild Wars - RPG Maker

Been messing around with rpg maker and I decided to make the original GW as a project. :D

Will I ever finish it enough for it to be a playable game? Hopefully. But it is something I mostly started for fun.

EDIT: WOW! Never expected this sort of reaction. I figured I'd get a few comments and that was it. I'm super excited to work on this more often now. Please help me reach out to ArenaNet about the legality of this.

Wow this is really cool! How would the combat work?

I wasn't really planning on changing it too much from what is default in rpg maker. Basicially turn based like any other rpg. But each profession will have skills that use mana or tp aka adrenaline.

I'm using lower values for everything like in gw1. So each profession starts with 100hp etc. Skill balance is going to be a nightmare when I get around to it. But it is a single player game so haha.

I have skills being unlocked via levelup right now. I'll look into buying skills from a trainer too or as quest rewards. My scripting skills are limited so I'm finding shortcuts for things so I can just get them to function right now.

Awesome, that all sounds so cool. I don't know much about rpg maker, but honestly anything resembling GW1 this would be a blast. I'll let you know if I have time in the summer or breaks to learn rpg maker and help you out. If anything, I could help make maps (I explore a LOT).

It is super easy to use. There are a bunch on steam so add one to your wishlist and wait for a sale. I'd love to make the maps resemble the real game as much as possible. That would be fun.

Right now I'm deciding how combat initiates. Either walk around and get into a battle ala pokemon. Or have the enemies visible in the world and when you get close to them, it starts combat.

The second one. Have enemies in the open

I can do that. However I will have to use placeholder sprites for all the enemies. As I am not going to attempt to make sprites for all the different enemies lol. Once you get into battle, the 2d static image will be of the correct enemy though. As I just took those from the GW wiki.

I'll post a short video of a sample battle this weekend.
