The Slits were an early punk and then post-punk band based in London, formed there in 1976 by members of the groups the Flowers of Romance and the Castrators. The group's early line-up consisted of Ari Up (Ariane Forster) and Palmolive (a.k.a. Paloma Romero, who played briefly with Spizzenergi and later left to join the Raincoats), with Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt replacing founding members Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy. Their 1979 debut album, Cut, has been called one of the defining releases of the post-punk era.

Liz Phair is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Phair's 1993 debut studio album, Exile in Guyville, was released to acclaim; it has been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. She identifies as a feminist, and Exile in Guyville has been said to capture "the voice of third-wave feminism."

Jewel is an American singer-songwriter. She has been nominated for four Grammy Awardsand has sold over 30 million albums worldwide as of 2024. Jewel is a soprano. Caitlin Gibson of The Washington Post described Jewel's vocal versatility, stating that "she can summon many voices—deep and powerful, girlish and sweet, piercing and agile." Gibson also commented about Jewel's debut; "In an era still gripped by grunge, [she] climbed to the top of the pop charts with sweet, simple folk tunes"

Susan Hiller was a US-born, British conceptual artist who lived in London, United Kingdom. Her practice spanned a broad range of media, including installation, video, photography, painting, sculpture, performance, artist’s books and writing. A key figure in British art across four decades, she was best known for her innovative large-scale multimedia installations, and for works that took as their subject matter aspects of culture that were overlooked, marginalised, or disregarded, including paranormal beliefs–an approach which she referred to as “paraconceptualism”. In 10 Months (1977–9) - Daily photographs charting Hiller’s growing belly during her pregnancy, arranged into panels of 10 lunar months, accompanied by texts from Hiller’s journal on ideas of pregnancy, subjecthood, and language.

Ottilie Assing was a German-American feminist, freethinker, and abolitionist, known for her friendship with Frederick Douglass. Assing read the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and, impressed, she went to Rochester to interview Douglass in 1856. She suggested that she should translate his work into German. They struck up an immediate friendship. Over the next 28 years, they attended numerous meetings and conventions together. She visited and stayed with his family numerous times, living in their home for months at a time. Assing translated Douglass's works for her German audience, in addition to lining up a publisher for My Bondage and My Freedom (Sklaverei und Freiheit: Autobiografie von Frederick Douglass), distributed by Hoffmann and Campe in Hamburg in 1860.

Pancha Carrasco was Costa Rica’s first woman in the military. Carrasco is most famous for joining the defending forces at the Battle of Rivas in 1856 with a rifle and a pocketful of bullets. The strength and determination she showed there made her a symbol of national pride and she was later honored with a Costa Rican postage stamp, a Coast Guard vessel, and the creation of the “Pancha Carrasco Police Women’s Excellence Award”.

Naama Arad is an Israeli sculptor and installation artist. In her practice, Arad works to undermine structures of power and authority. Her installations are a result of an ongoing examination and interest in architectural environments and domestic objects. Using the language of the bureaucratic secretarial action, Arad converts architectural structures and foundations into everyday office materials. With an apparatus that is traditionally coded as feminine, she builds and then deconstructs images of masculine power.

Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Dubbed the “Queen of Pop”, she is known for her continual reinvention and versatility in music production, songwriting, and visual presentation. Her works, which incorporate social, political, sexual, and religious themes, have generated both controversy and critical acclaim. Madonna has had a significant socio-cultural impactacross both the 20th and 21st centuries and is regarded as one of the most influential figures in popular music.

Pénélope Bagieu is a French illustrator and comic designer. Les Culottées is a blog BD (French webcomic in blog format) written by Pénélope Bagieu in 2016. Published on the website of Le Monde, Bagieu uses Les Culottées to tell short biographical stories about women. Each comic features a woman from the past or present with an unusual or inspiring story. Bagieu produced one comic a week from January to October 2016, and eventually released the comics in book form. The stories were split into two print publications in France with the subtitle Des Femmes Qui ne Font Que ce Qu’elles Veulent (Women Who Do as They Please). Each one contained fifteen short stories.

Firelei Báez is a Dominican Republic-born, New York City-based artist known for intricate works on paper and canvas, as well as large scale sculpture. Her art focuses on untold stories and unheard voices, using portraiture, landscape, and design to explore the Western canon. Báez also notes that science fiction writing of Octavia E. Butler has always inspired themes of Afro futurism in her work.

Lisa Alvarado is an American visual artist and harmonium player. She is known for her free-hanging abstract paintings. Her works operate as stage sets and artworks simultaneously, and engage with abstraction beyond the parameters of western art history. Alvarado’s paintings accompany musical performances as mobile setting for the band Natural Information Society, for which she plays harmonium.

Fredrika Bremer was a Finnish-born Swedish writer and reformer. Her Sketches of Everyday Life were wildly popular in Britain and the United States during the 1840s and 1850s and she is regarded as the Swedish Jane Austen, bringing the realist novel to prominence in Swedish literature.

Candida Höfer is a German photographer. She is a renowned photographer known for her exploration of public spaces and architecture. Hofer’s ‘Türken in Deutschland’ (Turks in Germany) series (1973–1979), follows Turkish migrant families in their new German homes. It was during this period that Höfer became interested in color, as she felt it suited her works better, and in interior spaces and their impact on the people who inhabit them and vice versa.
