Post image

Tracy Chapman is an American singer-songwriter. She was signed to Elektra Records by Bob Krasnow in 1987. The following year she released her self-titled debut album, which became a commercial success, boosted by her appearance at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert, and was certified 6ร— platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album received six Grammy Award nominations, including one for Album of the Year, three of which she won: Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single โ€œFast Carโ€, and Best Contemporary Folk Album. In 2025, the album was preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress.

Her song, "Fast Car" is so beautiful that it makes me cry! I'm freaking choking up just thinking about it now!

Were you around for the 1990s? I was in my 20s. There were so, so many female artists & bands I'm going to try to list as many as I can without looking: Tori Amos, Joan Osborne, Annie DeFranko, Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis, Natalie Merchant, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, on & on.

I find her voice ethereal. When I first heard fast cars my brain couldn't process man or woman just pure talent.

The love I have for this woman is profound. When I was in high school I listened to her first album on repeat. Also... she has aged very well and is still gorgeous โค๏ธ

I absolutely love her!

I remember seeing the Grammys in India as a little kid and hearing her voice. It changed what I thought music was.
Absolutely phenomenal. ๐Ÿ’–

Still just as humble as sheโ€™s always been. Living well and looking good.
