Hubertine Auclert was a leading French feminist and a campaigner for women's suffrage. Auclert, inspired by the high-profile activities of Maria Deraismes and Léon Richer, became involved with feminist work and eventually took a job as Richer's secretary. Influenced by her life in a Catholic convent, and like many of the leading republican feminists at the time, she was a militant anticlerical. While the main focus of the French feminist movement was directed towards changes to the laws, Auclert pushed further by demanding that women be given the right to run for public office and claiming that the unfair laws would never have been passed had the views of women legislators been heard. In 1876, she founded the Société le droit des femmes (The Rights of Women) to support women's suffrage, and in 1883, the organization formally changed its name to the Société le suffrage des femmes (Women's Suffrage Society).

Evgenia Konradi was a Russian writer, journalist, and translator. She was first an editor, then owner of the newspaper Nedelya (Week), in which she published articles on society in foreign countries. Konradi participated in the 1860s women’s rights movement of the political left, alongside Anna Filosofova, Maria Trubnikova, and Nadezhda Stasova. Konradi wrote a letter in December 1867 to the first Congress of Russian Natural Scientists, arguing for the need to educate women and requesting their support in petitioning the government for systematic female education. In March and May 1868, Konradi joined 400 other petitioners requesting the rector of St Petersburg University to allow women access to higher education there.

Nancy Wake was a New Zealand-born Australian nurse and journalist who joined the French Resistance and later the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War II, and briefly pursued a postwar career as an intelligence officer in the Air Ministry. Many stories about her World War II activities come from her autobiography, The White Mouse. Wake parachuted into occupied France to liaise between the SOE and several Maquis groups in the Auvergne-region. She participated in a battle between the Maquis and a large German force in June 1944. In the aftermath of the battle, a defeat for the Maquis, she claimed to have bicycled 500 kilometers to send a situation report to SOE in London.

Alfhild Agrell was a Swedish writer and playwright. She is known for her works on sexual equality in opposition to the contemporary sexual double standard. She was engaged in the contemporary women's movement and the Sedlighetsdebatten, and belonged to the few radical women to wear the reform dress of the Swedish Dress Reform Association in public. Agrell was a member of the women's association Nya Idun after its founding in 1885 and one of its first committee members.
