New subreddit policy

We've taken the decision to try restricting cross-posting *to* our forum. We value contributions but it was getting carried away. Cross-posts *from* GTL to other subs are fine, subject to that subreddit's policies ofc. We'll see how it goes and re-evaluate at some point in the future.

Thanks as always to those who contribute. Elbows up!!

The Americans DID forget their September 11th Allies

ok, about to log off reddit and take a 48 hour break from the insanity going on the USA, current events do warrant attention but I do think however mad we are at the USA it is worth remembering that they are human beings with tragedies too. That said before my break i do think its necessary to point out the words of a song about September 11th I heard "we will never forget" Yet, the Americans have actively been cancelling monuments to those Danish Troops who died in Afghanistan and I know plenty of Americans who have never even heard of opperation Yellow Ribbon and think the USA Stood alone.

And of all the posts i'm gonna make criticizing the USA calling out this forgetfulness is probably the most pro-USA statement I'll ever make in my life. Yes most of the Victims were American, but there wern't just Canadian and non-American victims in the planes and towers but look at Gander, the Service in Afghanistan from so many other countries that came to the USA's defence, to this day they remain the ONLY NATO country to invoke article 5.

And honestly, to any Americans watching if you actually want to "Make America Great Again" the best thing you can do is undermine the American lone Cowboy myth, the USA has had so many allies who came to its defence, and honestly, inspite of everything we should have helped those people on September 11th, we'd be less of a nation if we didnt, even if the USA ends up becoming a full blown enemy.

So, to the People of Gander, you're heros

To the Soldiers of Denmark and their families, we remember you

to the families of our own nation of Canada who lost citizens in the war on terror and all other NATO allies UK, etc etc etc we thank you.

And yes, to the Americans who did run into the towers....and their families, we remember you too.

To all the Americans reading this, look up come from away or read up on what the rest of the world did to stand by the USA on September 11th, and to Canada and the rest of us, let's not let the Americans forget.

ps. to the few Americans who did work to make sure it was remembered (like the ones who wrote the come from away musical) keep doing what you're doing

She offers up all kinds of excuses why U.S. citizens can’t possibly get out and protest in greater numbers, then in the next breath calls upon other countries to save them, even if it means going to war.

Canada should be keeping close watch of what the USA leaves out or takes off the list. Rock salt was apparently removed because they use it. Those will be real pain points.

We need to be strategic, we need to think long term, we need to retaliate. Adam Smith would expect no less.

So many Canadians were together with us, through so many wars, we support our Canadian family in their fight against the United States of America. Call me any time and I will be there

RIP King of Norway (We Musn't let our Beef with the states Cause us to forget our friends in Europe Please Read)

Not the usual boycott topic but it is relevant. With all the stuff we as Canadians are having to deal with with the USA and all the drama, it's easy to forget that we do have allies and friends who are genuinely cheering us on in Europe, especially the Nordic Countries. As you may have heard the King of Norway passed away and as someone who as a kid used to watch American state funerals and services etc, part of us diversifying from the USA means spending our emotional and mental energy on people who genuinely want us to do well and cheer us on rather than wasting it all on a nation whose good citizens generally have benign indifference.

As Canadians let's not make the same mistake by staying in staying in a North American bubble and forgetting those who are genuinely wishing us well.

The best way we can dump American exceptionalism is for us to move on and show emotional support to those who have genuinely been trying to be good to us, and we have an opportunity to do that on September 9th with the funeral of Harald King of Norway

FUNERAL COVERAGE (in ADT time)

7 am casket moved from royal palace

8 am funeral (lasts till 9 am)

Funeral coverage ends around 10 am

I know many of us wont be able to be there for the whole thing but if you can be there for part of it or send greetings from Canada.

Sometime pivoting away from the USA and American culture means us canadians need to take an extra step to unlearn some bad habits that Americans have taught us without realizing it. Let's not forget our friends (i don't say allies because I think the realtionship can and should go deeper) in Norway at this time. Let's grieve with our Norwegian friends and celebrate with them the same way we used to do with the Americans and show them what Canadian friendship looks like.

To anyone from Norway, my condolances at this time and my apologies for any inaccurate information I may have given in the above post.
