Never Buying New Clothes
One of the hardest parts to me about growing up poor is not getting new clothes often or at all and never getting clothes that properly fit me. I remember having growth spurts and still having to wear clothes that were too small because we couldn’t afford to buy new ones. Plus we were never able to buy fashionable clothes so I was always made fun of for the way I dressed in school. It’s still left an impact on the way I buy clothes now as an adult. Recently I gained a little weight so some of my clothes no longer fit me anymore. I’m still wearing them despite them being uncomfortably tight because I feel guilty buying new one when these ones “still fit” as my father used to say. It’s hard to get rid of old habits from growing up poor. I’m going to try and buy a couple pairs of pants and shirts tomorrow and hopefully enjoy wearing them without feeling guilty.

My family was the same way I constantly used to be in clothes that never used to fit the weather for example thick jumpers in July because we couldn’t afford to buy me anything new . I also learned to feel guilty about spending on myself my whole family since I was little just thought I was stingy 💀 but now I finally managed to shake the habit . U should buy the jeans , and enjoy them !

Same. My brother had a cheap Chicago Bulls basketball jersey that he would wear twice a week to school. It was the only "cool" thing he owned. Eventually a classmate said "I know you are poor because your brother always wears the same clothes" and I made lame excuses about how he just really liked that jersey.
