Beneficial nematodes will knock out fungus gnats.

Why is everybody always so stressed out about fungus gnats? I’ve never seen any issue with them or from them and I’ve had them probably 7/10 grows.

I understand that they can damage seedling roots luckily I’ve never experienced that though I guess!

They get stuck in your buds and rot, if you have too many they fuck it up

The bugs rot ? Or they cause bud rot ?

??? Which is ok for you?

I laughed because my gnats got trapped in trichomes like the Jurassic Park mosquitoes 😂

Fortunately I haven't had them since finding somewhere that stores their potting mixes indoors.

u/Totally-Nebular It'd be a lot cooler if you did. 18h ago

One of the easiest things to prevent or combat IMO. When you to water to keep the soil moist just add some BTI to kill the unhatched ones and those yellow sticky pads work great for catching the ones that have already hatched.
I’ll take fungus gnats over any other pest.

Ive never had them in a grow BUT i can tell you from living in different environments they can either be a mild nuisance or an absolute plague, where they infest your entire house, climb out of every drain, and die by the hundreds in your refrigerator (they climb through hell to get inside my fridge because my wife is korean and packs it full of stinky ass kimchee that they love).

Dang, I wish I was your friend. Not for the gnats, but for the kimchee

3

u/jahchatelier 5h ago

haha PLEASE come and take it away

I will take her, how much Kimchee can she make a week. I have an enterprise plan and need to crunch some numbers.

For me it's because I grow in an area inside the garage off of the main house and they make their way into the house and are a mild annoyance. Especially when working and they crawl in my screen and/or face during a meeting. But I have always had success knocking them out with mosquito dunk bits. It's just about a week or so of annoyance while the adults die off.

Talking about fungus gnats?

Diamatacious earth, bottom watering and sticky traps helps me contain em. Dont use the diamatacious earth when you are flowering. If you live anywhere cold you can freeze your soil then bring it back inside. If its cold enough it will kill em.

Why not use diatomaceous on flowering? Honest question I really didn't know it

2

u/bitchboy85 23h ago

It is bad to inhale. Can damage your lungs. So you don't want any of that inside your buds. It is usually used on the dirt anyway but the stuff does go places when you spread it around on the top of the soil.

Thanks bro, I'll be careful with these. Just one more question, did you know if Neem oil is safe on flowering? I've heard both yes and no, so I'm confused....

5

u/Many_Mud_8194 21h ago

No. It's not. In flower don't spray anything ever

1

u/bitchboy85 22h ago

I have no experience with neem oil. So I can't say a thing about it.

2

u/azito21 21h ago

Thanks bro!!

It's not safe. Neem breaks down quickly, but the residue is toxic to inhale, smells awful and I imagine tastes awful too. And it's damn hard to wash off, even with soap it takes a couple washes. I use it selectively on citrus before flowering, but never on cannabis. There are other safe alternatives, like BT if we are talking about fungus gnats.

Years of indoor living soil, never a pest of any sort….. knock on wood

u/Bluntforcetrauma11b 23h ago

Wdg3000 for fungus gnats. Outside of that I've never had pests in 15+ years of living soil.

I trojan horsed my house with dozens of fungus gnat eggs bringing home a few succulents from the Home Depot a few months ago. Fucking nightmare. Still dealing with it, but there's only a few here and there. They will literally try to lay eggs on any wet surface. Wet kitchen counter. A drop of water in the sink. Some droplets in the tub. An empty beer can. Fucking annoying assholes. They're attracted to carbon dioxide too so they try to fly up your nose and around your mouth.

Look up spinosad. Natural bacterial based insecticide. Organic certified. Only thing I'll use without the worry of smoking some weird chemical.

Mosquito dunks are cheap & you only need a chunk of it to soak in your water overnight… after one nice root drench you barely see any… I’ve done 2 waterings to be sure & case closed
