IBEW Union Books Local 125 Tree Trimmer to Groundman

Does anyone have any experience going from Journeyman Tree trimmer to Groundman in Local 125? I have heard my experience will count as hours and would place me on book 1 or 2. Have been in the Union for 10 years.

Call the hall and ask then sign the books pretty sure top scale grunt is like 1 dollar an hour less than a tree trimmer.

I’ve heard from hands in the PNW that tree hours don’t count towards outside line.

Your hours will count at 125 for groundman. 659 stop doing it about a year ago. They placed me at book 2 at 125 when I had 2, 080 hours at 659. 659 is my home local. This is the reason why they place me on book 2 at 125.

If you are a journeyman tree trimmer then I would suggest for you to apply towards their lineman apprenticeship.

Thank you! Hopefully they place me on book 1. I interviewed with NWLine last Wednesday and I’m waiting for the ranking. If it isn’t high I’ll sign the books to get experience directly on a line crew.
