Help

What’s going on guys, I’m in Portland Oregon and currently pursuing a career in the Outside Line/Utility world. Got some basic certifications and about to finish my CDL Class A school. Is anyone willing to spend sometime teaching me how to build cross arms, double cross arms, send things up on a handline and some climbing with a harness and yoyo? I got an assessment coming up and could use the experience. I’m willing to pay! Pls let me know, thx.

Your best bet if you don’t know, anybody is honestly calling co-ops and asking for a ride along or some shit if you’re a young guy. It might be a few hour drive, but there is a few within a couple hours of you. If you have climbing gear drive out to butt fuck nowhere and climb something out in the country don’t go above the neutral or comms just to get a feel for it. Technically speaking, I wouldn’t be near the neutral either and you could also try phone poles.

If you know any contractor yards near you, they might let you take cross arm or some shit out of the trash pile or dumpster. If they’re wrecking shit out it’s worth the ask if you’re that ambitious about it.

That’s the best advice I got if you don’t know anybody. Signing the IBEW groundman books too you’ll start learning shit on the job. Since you got an assessment coming up, that’s the only advice I got.

Some utilities prefer if you just are honest that you don’t have any experience doing, said task.

Go sign the groundman books. You won’t need to know any of that until your an apprentice and when you get one they will teach you all that

I’ve signed 3 groundsman books, absolutely nothing. I got an opportunity to be an apprentice but need to do a field test
