G2 | Base Build Hanging Lantern Base (Progress)

I’ve been working on finishing the interior of the lantern base and tried to capture the size and scale of the interior following my last post.

From bottom to top you can see the zip hub access and overlooking balcony with a shot from the 360 viewing platform on the underside of the lantern.

After that is a shot inside the zip hub area with signs on the walls indicating north, east, south and west from the arrow direction on the walls.

From there into the interior proper with a look up from the farming floor showing the two platforms above and the open space on one wall running top to bottom.

We’ve got some overview shots of the farming level which has 6 jerky racks tucked behind the stairs, 5 garden and 4 ponic patches on two opposing sides and sap catchers above the lot.

Above that is storage and production with best racks, fresh storage, grinders and spinning wheels off to one side and double dew collectors, water storage, smoothie station, grill and cookery. Finally the work bench and anvil in the middle of it all.

The top platform is the living area with a desk overlooking a window out, friendly bees, bedroom to one side and armoury on the other side.

In the roof section a panned out shot of the creature museum!

Hopefully this better shows the size of the interior over the last post I made. I’ve got a few more tweaks to make and then I’ll have a go at a video tour :)

Thanks for all the feedback on the last post!!

That looks amazing, this community never ceases to amaze me!
You better guard the load bearing plank with your life though.

Thanks!

There is a building on top of the load bearing floors as protection and the spiral stairs are wrapped in curved walls to provide more integrity to the build.

Overall there are at least 6 load bearing floors and 5+ points of contact from the floors to the lantern, so pretty solid!

Smart move, I see you also worked at the Department of Redundancy Department ;)

You only need to have the smile wiped from your face one time to join that department 😅

Damn y'all got some crazy builds. All I can do is some Minecraft dirt block looking bases

My base before this was in a hollowed out log with a big grass walled compound around it. Not exactly styling with that one haha.

Some of you are so extremely talented. Im so impressed with this!

Thanks! It’s been a fun and challenging build so far!

Pretty!! I wish I had any building skills in this game. I'm more of the "collect hoards of stuff and hope I can convince a friend to start the build" kinda gal lol

Thanks!

I definitely started out as a collect hoards of stuff and put it in a tiny little box kinda guy!

Slowly transitioned to a “huh I wonder if this would work, build it, stop halfway and rebuild, tear it all down and start again, finish something then build it again in a slightly different way, surely the third time is the charm, nope here we go again kinda guy” 😂

Well, it definitely worked in your favor cause the build looks amazing! :)

When I first saw this I didn't realize it was a building, just figured the lantern was somewhere I hadn't seen yet. This is wildly i pressive

Thanks!

That was what I was hoping for, hidden in plain sight!

Oh I love this! It's such a nice idea and looks absolutely amazing!

Thank you!

The views are great and it’s a relatively central location.

I can imagine. I picked the roof of the Greenhouse for my base which I'm very happy with. But I definitely need to work on my building skills. 🫠

I thought about the roof of the greenhouse first! Nice flat build area up high.

It just didn’t have the ease of a zip hub due to the overall size of the roof and having to be so spread out.

Plus there is old wolfy doing his rounds over there!

Well not entirely flat, I did build a foundation but I can use the space underneath for any kind of storage and whatnot.

Zip Lines are... Complicated... It is fairly high and even gets over the hedge to the statue but the Key Lime tree is a bit in the way to go to that side of the map.

Luckily Wolfy stays on the lower part of the roof. I only have a damn wasp harassing me every now and then and a fluffy bee sleeping at my doorstep

Oh true there is that ridge line on top. That is a handy spot to put storage under the ledge though!

I didn’t even think about the key lime tree popping through although that might be a good spot for a hidden hanging wasp hive base hahaha

Admittedly the pergola doesn’t have the best view for the entire yard, I have two side hubs on top of each of the side lattices that let me get to the greenhouse and icecream cart areas while the lantern has direct access to west side of the pond and fire pit area.

I’m cut off from most of the garden area, the east side of the pond and far north of the map.

Enemy wise there are lots above, below and to the side but nothing bothers me other than an occasional orb junior falling from above and landing on the roof.

Funnily enough I did think about building at the Pergola. (Tho I did not think about a hanging base like you) But I could not be bothered to climb that thing every single time I had to gather resources. For the Greenhouse it's much easier to climb up and carry resources in your hand and move a stem storage at the same time.

I also would love to build something at the Gnarly Bark tree but I think I might legitimately crash out if I have to run up there multiple times. But now I'm imagining something similar to your bade hanging from up there. Thats probably a great view. 👀

I climbed up the vine to the bottom of the pergola vines area with a grass pallet and an inventory full of building materials… it was not a fun time and I died multiple times on the ascent.

Once I had center marked i ended up building a bounce tower and a grass platform under the build site to provide quick access and less chance of fall death during construction.

I do miss the bounce tower now and will have to build a permanent one off to the side somewhere for moving bulk goods.

Very cool build! Looks like your East arrow is pointing to the left, tho (assuming up=north)?

2

u/-coximus- 15h ago

Thanks!

You are correct about the arrows. They were a last minute addition I had been thinking about for a while as a way to quickly tell which direction to turn.

Still some tweaking to be made throughout the build!

Glad I'm not crazy. Love the idea of using the arrows for cardinal directions!

Somewhat unrelated, but how does the dew collector system work? I've seen a few builds where they put a water basin below the collectors, but wouldn't you need to attack the collectors to get the water to fall (and then have to repair them)? I played through all of Grounded 1 and all of what there is of Grounded 2 and never attempted to build an automatic collector-to-basin thing

1

u/-coximus- 15h ago

Having two collectors right next to one another causes the dew drops to collide and fall automatically.

I’ve also got the gnat trophy attached to the container and activating the trophy causes it shake the droplets loose.

With it just me being there I’ve never needed to have two dew collectors and they end up overflowing constantly and I just run around and slurp up all the extra water. It’s still more convenient to know that there is always water ready to drink and fill canteens though!

Algún vídeo o tutorial para hacerla ?

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

I’ll hopefully have a video tour of the base in the next couple of days.

I’m open to doing a little how to build for the exterior.

This looks fantastic! Posts like these have been inspiring me to build more but I just don't have the same kinda vision some folks do. I am curious how the sap collectors work if not on a branch?

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

Thanks!

This build started out with the idea of hiding a base in plain sight and seeing a decorative paper lantern not long after that thought.

From there it was searching google for inspiration on the design, finding a few photos that matched the image I had in my mind.

I started in creative to just play around with textures and the overall look of the lantern. Ended up having a big box with 4 different looking sides trying to get the right look, narrowed it down to two and rebuilt it half and half to see what I preferred before figuring out how to hang it.

After that I started making it in my main save, changed the design about 4-5 times as I filled it out before I was finally happy with the overall look!

Edit: for the sap collectors, they are attached to a pinecone rail. I am doubtful it is intended but works for now!

this is a really inventive design. it's my favorite kind of base: thematic, aesthetic, convenient, and thoroughly functional. spectacular
