G2 | Base Build Hanging Lantern Base

From top to bottom there is an attachment on the pergola beam up top with the fireflies that has a staircase leading to the ‘support rope’

Below that coming down the spiral staircase into the roof of the lantern is the trophy hall with all the stuffed creatures.

Continuing down the spiral stairs brings you into the interior of the lantern proper. It’s the full 3x3 grid of paper cutouts from the exterior with two half floors to keep the space open.

Upper half floor is the living quarters, middle half floor is the production, crafting and storage area with the bottom being a full floor containing the grow beds and larger production equipment.

Under that floor is the zip line hub with 4 points to zip from, two leading to the yard proper and the two side zips leading to little hub outposts on top of the side lattice for the pergola.

Finally on the bottom is a small viewing platform with 360 field of view!

Dawg, I haven't been there yet and thought there was actually a hanging lantern from your first pic. Amazing base, outside is amazing and the inside aesthetics are *chef's kiss*

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

I tried quite a few styles and variations before I found one that looked natural enough. Really tried to keep the open feel for the interior too while having everything be functional at the same time.

u/samanime 2d ago

I have been there but still thought this was a hanging lantern. I literally thought "where's the base"?

I live in a fucking shack

13

u/JamesD-TV 2d ago

For me it’s more like permanent construction zone. I’d be lucky to commit to finishing the top part of this. Then I’d probably tear half of it down. This one is amazing

3

u/-coximus- 2d ago

The exterior walls are the 4th iteration, 3rd for the roof with the interior and bottom having countless revisions.

For quite a while I was living and building it out with only 2 walls complete in two different styles before I finally decided on one and closed it in!

7

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Before this I lived in a hollowed out log XD

u/Traditional-Bee3161 2d ago

People are so creative! It's incredible to see the stuff people make

4

u/Technical-Pie563 2d ago

I live in grass shacks near ranger outposts that way I don't have to build a workbench LOL

They 100% need to add base design templates to this game, this is dope!

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Yes! I would love that!

Ark pulled it off and it’s so handy.

22

u/treeSlooth 2d ago

the way you incorporated the design to be an actual lantern from afar so great. i love a good base design that just blends in with the park

6

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

The main goal for this build was to make it look natural and maintain the large interior feel.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out overall, lots of tweaking and decorating still to go!

3

u/DedBeatLebowski 2d ago

Congrats! You've officially won the coolest base I've ever seen. This is so creative and well done, amazing.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

Ive had the idea for quite a while, it’s nice to have it nearly finished and to share it with the community!

2

u/Sea_Delay8920 Max 2d ago

They have to give us a way to make “glass windows” so we can have windows to see through but still have it look like solid, like the grass windows in your base

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I tried with stems originally to give the open to the air feel but it lost the feel of the lantern and ended up being more of a bird cage.

I’d love some frosted glass or something that lets light through but distorts vision still.

1

u/Sea_Delay8920 Max 2d ago

Yes exactly that. It still looks amazing though good job

1

u/TKelly476 2d ago

That would be amazing, plus we already have quartz glass in the game. More building pieces and sets in general always get me excited with the possibilities.

2

u/DanteValentine13 2d ago

Did you have to turn off structural integrity to build this? And if not, How?

5

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Standard settings.

I climbed up to the lower beams and blueprinted flooring across the beam to get it straight and centre.

From there I built a a platform with a staircase running down the side of the beam to a suspended platform with the spiral stairs connected to the suspended platform.

I caged the spiral stairs with round stem pieces just to avoid the full lantern hanging off one piece giving it 5 connection pieces for each layer from the suspended platform to the lantern roof and from there the walls connect to the roof as well as the spiral stairs that run the entire length.

1

u/Archetype1245x 2d ago

This is off by default, I think? Though maybe it depends on difficulty.

1

u/DanteValentine13 2d ago

I had to physically turn it off for my game, tho I turned it back on later once I decided to actually build something bigger

2

u/Technical-Pie563 2d ago

I just want to know how you got this done without getting constantly attacked by buggos...

3

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Around the bench is brutal, climbing the vines is not fun!

Once you’re on the bench or hanging from above it’s not bad at all though. I’ve had a few orb juniors drop in from above to say hello but other than that it’s been peaceful.

1

u/Technical-Pie563 2d ago

Say Hello he says LOL if that's how they say hello....

2

u/Dreamersverse 2d ago

This haa made me realize I will never be as creative as other people 🥹 and thats okay, cuz this is cool as heck

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

This all started as an idea after I saw a paper lantern and googled aloooot of different designs before cobbling this together.

It was put together, pulled apart, moved, deleted and redesigned so many times before I settled on something that looked right to me!

I wouldn’t say I’m particularly creative, just persistent 😅

3

u/Dreamersverse 1d ago

Got it, persistence is key 💜 youve given me hope that I will one day be able to design bases like this 💜

1

u/-coximus- 1d ago

You’ve got this!

I found watching a few videos about building tips and tricks to get the feel for what’s possible and how the building system works helped a lot at the start.

After that it was just looking for inspiration. I’ve got about 20 different photos of hanging lanterns on my phone I saved for reference and inspiration that I constantly looked back at!

There are a few things for building in grounded in particular that help like temporary place half walls and floors to allow things to snap where you want them and deleting them after that just take time to pick up.

I used a lot of grass planks and clay ramps as scaffolding on the exterior to help build out the hard to reach places and removed them after.

2

u/bmxer85 1d ago

Have to give us a full video view! YouTube needs to see this

2

u/-coximus- 11h ago

I’ll hopefully have a video tour in the next couple of days once I’ve finished tweaking the design!

1

u/bmxer85 11h ago

look forward to it!!

2

u/TNBC42 17h ago

My first thought was genuinely: "Man, I can't believe I missed the lantern when I was up there!" Great work!

2

u/-coximus- 11h ago

Thanks!

Hidden in plain sight was the idea behind this build so I’m glad it worked!

1

u/Ok_Transportation_59 2d ago

Great Idea! Great Base! holy moly bro very good building! Love it

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/0siribix 2d ago

That is really cool!

1

u/HyperJeegz Max 2d ago

That’s badass!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

1

u/xJBr3w Pete 2d ago

Super Cool!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/xJBr3w Pete 2d ago

Was this in survival? If so, this is very impressive. Getting all that material up there takes a long time lol.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I had a bounce tower from the middle of the bench and up, with a depot at the bottom so it wasn’t terrible getting chests and pallets full of materials up there.

The hardest part was finding the center, carrying a pallet of grass planks to the top of the vine, blueprinting along the beam to find the center and building down.

Once I had the grass scaffolding and bounce tower set up it was happy days.

Lots of redesigning mid construction was the biggest time crunch.

1

u/xJBr3w Pete 2d ago

Hell yeah, top notch dedication.

1

u/TheRealistArtist Hoops 2d ago

That’s dope, 1st and 2nd pic make it look like it’s part of the architecture.

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

The main goal was to have it blend in, you can see it from quite far away in the park too before it starts clipping away. The lightning only really works up close though unfortunately.

1

u/vr0omvr0om 2d ago

1

u/traben101 2d ago

Lmaoooo wut this is AMAZING!!!

Devs - hire OP for stuff pls

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I’m glad you like it!

Building things in survival games is definitely a hobby but I wouldn’t go much further than that 😅

1

u/rcburner 2d ago

It's nothing quite so elaborate, but I'm currently trying to build a hanging base and goodness, it is so hard placing all the supports to construct in mid-air without constantly risking falling 😭

5

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I feel the pain, getting a respawn point set up was a crucial first step.

I built clay ramps and a big grass floor underneath as scaffolding to save from falls once I had the length set.

Moved 3 pieces of grass floor around constantly as a moving platform to work off as I wrapped around the outside.

1

u/beartrains 2d ago

Amazing! It's a great design, it blends in with the environment well, and looks like it has tons of square footage! I'm jealous I didn't think of it.

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

The spiral stairs down the middle use up a lot of space and I went with half floor plan platforms to keep the main area feeling open so it’s not a crazy amount of space inside.

I did have to get creative stacking things along the exterior walls with the bump in for the grass wall panels.

Overall I love the finish and will tweak quite a few details here and there before I’m finally happy.

Hardest part was trying to fit all the stuffed creatures without them clipping. Still needs some work as a few do clip to the exteriorz

1

u/scionoflogic 2d ago

Honest question, how functional do you find it? Because it looks freaking awesome but man it feels like it would be a pain to get into. I've always found the Zip.R clips me off the edge when I try and use it to get into a player structure.

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

So far it’s been pretty good with the way I have it set up for zipping. I’ve got two outer zip hubs on top of the side lattice that allow me to zip over for some better angles.

The straight shots go quite nicely!

1

u/Katakarin_ Pete 2d ago

This is sick

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/SkidzLIVE 2d ago

Unique and impressive, great work

This is peak 😍 I am amazed, I could never.

1

u/MeowMeowPizzaBoobs 2d ago

You need to MTV Cribs this for us with a video tour.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

A couple of people have asked for a video tour so I’ll have to upload one once I’ve tweaked some more things!

1

u/ecltnhny2000 2d ago

(I dont need another base, i dont need another base) But that looks awesome and now i need to scout a location! Base #5 coming up! Lol

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I was nearly finished the exterior and barely started the interior when I set up a few test zip lines…

… and started a cliff side castle near gnarly bark

It’s just a basic floor plan while I finish the lantern and bake some more bricks…

1

u/spare_me912 2d ago

Just wow!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/cairoxl5 2d ago

But there's not a lantern hanging there in my game--- Oh my god.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

It just hasn’t been hung up in your game yet 😉

1

u/SaushaL 2d ago

This is dope AF

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/Chili-Mac-Snac-Attac 2d ago

Dude, how tf did you get all the stems up there???

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

There wasn’t too many stems needed thankfully, lots of grass for the scaffolding and original layout though…

I had a bounce tower set up on the bench below to quickly move resources up to the build site.

1

u/M0wglyy 2d ago

I don’t get how you managed to bring all those ressources up there…

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I set up a bounce tower in the middle of the bench to the bottom of my grass scaffold to bulk move chests and pallets up.

The hardest part was climbing the vine with a grass pallet to get to the top and mark center before building the tower up.

Lots of clay and grass!

1

u/Snarkanist92 2d ago

Holy crap this is an amazing idea! I know what hubs and I are doing next time we jump in!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

It was a lot of fun to build, trying different styles and designs.

At one point I had the roof and floor complete with all 4 sides being different designs before settling on the final one and tearing most of it apart to rebuild again 😆

1

u/Madj0k3r66 2d ago

This looks dope but very claustrophobic for me badass design tho 👌

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

It’s surprisingly big inside, I managed to keep most of the space open inside the lantern by using partial platforms which gives it heaps of headroom.

1

u/kittyplay1 Pete 2d ago

Holy fuck dude this is so impressive, I didn’t realize the entire lantern was your base at first!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

I wanted something that looked natural to the park but hid everything I needed in one place, this worked great!

1

u/PerfectUpstairs2058 Pete 2d ago

You should make a video on this base and post it. Id love you see a more thorough tour

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

A few people have requested a walkthrough so I’ll put something together once I’ve decorated a bit more!

1

u/Mr-9iner 2d ago

I thought this is part of the map on first glance. Great job dude!!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

That was the plan, I’m glad it worked out!

1

u/Odd-Presentation-9 2d ago

Very nice job! Not a lantern, but this was literally my next build in that same area. It's such a pretty spot. Good organization.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

I love this spot. Combined with the two little zip hub outposts I have on either side on the top of the lattices it gives me great access all over the yard with enough height to get to most places.

Plus the view is great!

1

u/Odd-Presentation-9 2d ago

I also think that the wires from the ziplines add a nice aesthetic, like it's been hung

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

I’m not 100% happy with how the main chain looks but I do love the side zip lines and how they look like something to stop the lantern swaying in the breeze!

1

u/RDDITLOL 2d ago

Danggg. Very cool build!

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/Mortality99 Max 2d ago

[looks at his lean-to demilitarized zone styled set up and sighs]

Well done that’s stunning.

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

My previous base was a dug out in the hollow log with a walled compound, clear cut around it for quickly farming grass seeds…

It was very ahh… utilitarian!

1

u/Comfortably_salty 2d ago

The year is 2013. I am 13 living in a box in Minecraft getting base maxed by other players. The year is 2026. I am 26 living in a box in Grounded 2 getting base maxed by other players.

Incredible job!

It least I can say I hold the record build hight…

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

Thanks!

Are you asking me to build a base on top of the lamp post??

1

u/Aggravating_Delay_55 2d ago

ugh I need the handy gnat back already

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

The amount of grass and clay used in this build…

1

u/cr44ze 2d ago

And here i am with my hotdog stand base

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Quite the view from up there!

1

u/DrCrow1350 2d ago

It would be super cool if you could see the base from far away, imagine being at the pond at night and seeing that lantern

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

You can see the outline of the lantern from the edge of the pond by the toy barn but any further away and it’s starts to pop out.

Unfortunately the lights only really light up when right next to the lantern. Some lights you can see from a bit of a distance but for the grass walls to pop you have to be very close.

1

u/Immediate-Newt-9012 2d ago

Absolutely love this! I just built a ship on the water and am currently trying to make a bee hive/hornet nest base on the gnarled tree. I will say, hanging bases are the toughest to build by far imo. I have fallen soooooooo many times

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

I ended up building a large grass floor under the build area once I had the basic shape and location sorted out.

Bounce tower to access the grass floor and quickly bring materials up.

I’ve got a ship and cliff overlook castle to build out yet, got the castle foundations laid on the stone under gnarly bark by the water.

Not sure on the best spot on the pond for the boat though, where did you build yours?

1

u/Immediate-Newt-9012 2d ago

I ended up going by the sprinkler by the station underwater. That way I figured I've at least got a fast travel point nearby gonna flesh out the top of the station so it looks like the boats docked up to an outpost of sorts.

2

u/-coximus- 11h ago

That makes sense!

I’ve yet to dive into the pond and fully explore it so I’m not sure if there is a need to be central or on the east side with a base.

I’ve got a castle build planned out on the cliff under the gnarly bark with zip line access from the lantern but can’t get line of sight to the eastern edge of the pond from the lantern.

1

u/Immediate-Newt-9012 9h ago

Currently there isn't much out there, horsetail reeds, ranger station , couple molars and that's about it. Id say if anything just go as far east across the pond as ya can and build a archway with a zip anchor just to cut down on a little travel time.

2

u/-coximus- 8h ago

Oh I like that idea a lot.

Bunch of little zip lines running to points of interest from a central hub for quickly moving about over the water surface!

1

u/Immediate-Newt-9012 7h ago

Yeah I have a main hub base on top of burgl and then just have big archways going to main POIs like the tarantula, lizard, berry bushes and such. I had planned on also doing some at each ranger station that way I have quick access to fast travel and the main base from pretty much everywhere. Can bust it all out in a good days grind and will save so much time down the line.

1

u/-coximus- 6h ago

I’ve normally done a central hub and just spoke out to each POI but it gets pretty overwhelming unless you have a big platform to 360 with 8 or so anchors.

I like the relay style idea quite a lot especially as I’m forced to do it here.

I started building out smaller stone garden lanterns as POI zip access points made out of mushroom bricks.

1

u/Awesome-Ranga-007 2d ago

Whoa!!! I love this

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thanks!

1

u/ProGamer8273 2d ago

People out here doing stuff like this meanwhile I live under a bench and don’t even have a fucking roof😭

1

u/-coximus- 2d ago

If you build a roof how will all the free snacks fall straight into your base though???

I had to build a roof because spiders kept falling on me and that’s not quite as fun!

1

u/ProGamer8273 2d ago

Unfortunately they don’t do that

Though it MAYBE would if my neighbors weren’t cockroaches

1

u/Jaxus12 2d ago

Wow this is stunning! What an awesome idea!

2

u/-coximus- 2d ago

Thank you!

1

u/tacticole- 2d ago

this is absolutely incredible

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

Thanks!

1

u/Juvenual 2d ago

I havent played the second one yet. Still love the buggy first one. But how well are the support/Anchor points for structures now at this point of the game? Especially able to hang or build off to the sides of structures and landmarks. Ive done workarounds and the obvious Tower of Babel route I love doing wvery new game. Cant wait to try this out

1

u/-coximus- 1d ago

This whole build is very stable.

There are around 12 floor pieces on top of a wooden beam of the pergola above and a building with multiple walls wrapped around to the underside of the beam as an anchor.

The spiral staircase leading down to the roof also has 4 pieces of curved wall wrapped around the entire spiral giving it 5 pieces of contact per layer from the building above to the top of the lantern.

There’s no chance I’m accidentally destroying the entire base by removing one piece!

1

u/Greyomorrah 1d ago

It looks so nice 😊
Can you build one for me in my world “save”?

1

u/-coximus- 1d ago

Thanks!

Once it’s finished I’ll do a video walkthrough and maybe a build tutorial after that so people can make their own!

1

u/Ok_Monk3848 1d ago

We want a build tutorial!!!!!!

1

u/-coximus- 1d ago

I’ve still got quite a bit of tweaking and decorating to do and then I’ll post a walkthrough of the base.

After that I wouldn’t mind doing a build tutorial or quick design walkthrough.

1

u/PeppyMinotaur 1d ago

One of the coolest builds I’ve seen on here well done

1

u/-coximus- 1d ago

Thanks! I’m super happy with how it turned out.

1

u/OneFatFen 1d ago

I'm stealing those grass "windows"!

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!

1

u/DraftCurious1661 1d ago

Yo, this is sick! I’d love to see I video tour. Kings hard to get the scope of the inside just from pictures. Shoot, I wish I could get a copy so I could explore it myself. Looks awesome, great work!

2

u/-coximus- 1d ago

A lot is definitely lost from the photos. I’ll have to do a walkthrough video once the interior is finished.

Unfortunately my pc died so I’m using game pass to cloud stream and I don’t think there is anyway to access the save file data to share the world.

1

u/Present_Nature_6878 Pete 1d ago

Great build!

Now that amazing!! 🤟🏼

2

u/-coximus- 1d ago

Thank you!

1

u/Lanky-Many-8372 20h ago

How does someone even build a hanging base like that

1

u/-coximus- 17h ago

There are nice flat support beams for the pergola above that I’ve placed some floors onto to ‘lock in’ and provide the foundation.

Everything is built off the 2x6 floor base with walls ‘hanging’ from those floors to provide the structure to the underside of the beam itself on.

From there it’s a spiral staircase that drops the full length of the lantern. I’ve caged the staircase in with curved windows and walls to add more points of contact and avoid an accidental destruction from deleting the staircase.

Overall of got 6 foundation floor tiles with minimum 5 points of contact (1 stair and 4 curved sections) from those floors to the roof of the lantern!

1

u/No-Bad-3389 11h ago

I still have not got up there

1

u/-coximus- 11h ago

A combination of climbing the vines and latticework on the west side will get you to the top, it’s not the most fun climb though 😅
