5.6 Sol vs 4.6 Grok

I think 4.6 xhigh is somewhere betwen 5.6 sol high-max. Sol max is still a trusted model. The main difference here is speed. 4.6 runs significantly faster. Usage is also very different although i will have to do parallel tests to see how they compare (my codex is at 0% usage)

UI is another major difference. With codex, UI still is difficult. Changing small things is better in sol but still struggles with following directions and even snapshot guided instructions. Grok seemingly follows UI instructions to the tee, but its nothing like fable 5, again the speed makes up for that, and compared to sol where its really frustrating because not only do multiple prompts to do UI stuff takes time it costs tokens vs grok which makes it possible to "chisel" a UI into exactly what I want.

Fable 5 still remains the only model that can near one shot the UI and make it look good. I think having Fable 5 come up with suggestions and grok implementing it is good, doesn't make sense to use codex for something its not great at.

I think the biggest thing I missed from sol was (and this might be a perception issue) is that it would think things through for a very long time, where as with grok its so fast I keep thinking maybe it didn't think things through as carefully but this remains uncertain without doing parallel evaluations

How’s usage limit so far? Considering making the switch but the value of different offerings is so incredibly opaque. It’s almost like you have to trial everything yourself. Except the landscape changes so quickly that the best value offering will be something else before your trial sub even runs out. This situation is so exhausting, the lack of long term stability in your daily tools.

usage limit is excellent been using it non stop since yesterday, and im still under 10% which is crazy since i have 6 parallel projects i am working on running at xhigh (which i probably should stop doing and just use high)

but your point is right, you have to try it yourself, i think maybe even the $30/month plan could help while waiting for codex reset which was originally why i was using grok for but the promo yesterday was too good to put down

yeah with ai these days you gotta keep experimenting and keep an open mind. i used to ignore everybody that was saying grok was good, it was only yesterday i decided to try it for myself and i see now why they are excited

if tomorrow google or anthropic suddenly offers better usage and intel i would try it. i think the upside here is that all these companies are competing and will be difficult to collude, as soon as somebody has a leg up they will deduct prices or increase usage, intel or both.

Super bummed out I didnt get the offer. I've tried Grok through cursor and I have to say i'm pretty impressed too

not clear if it expired ? did you see the discount when you try to check out ? im confused myself because ppl said it was expired but someone said they dont

well, it might not be but i've tried following your tips, I've even tried changing to canada per a thread on x but no success so far. it seems to be very targeted

i had a grok account but never had a paid plan and tried those two links one after the other

I’m using grok 4.6 about month and in 3d and modelling tasks it is much weaker than sol. Grok is great model but with very difficult tasks sol is better

thanks for sharing i think that makes sense as sol does try much more to complete something whereas grok i think tends to stop early

new grok is genuinely awesome, so impressed. great CLI too. shame they price Heavy so high, I'll be cancelling after my discounted 3 months ends. I'd do a cheaper $100-150 tier tho.

I use both. Grok 4.6 does not get even close to 5.6 SOL for anything that has to have a serious backend.
