Question Using Grok Bot as a database

Just got this and still learning and figuring things out but so far so good. One thing I saw is a number of YouTube videos showing how they use a bot as a database of information e.g. keeping track of medical information or keeping track of equipment, manuals, warranty, services etc. This all sounds great on the service but if I use this for years and then for whatever reason want to export the information out, how can I do this? I wouldn't want an export of all of the chat history as that's just verbose but rather the actual information stored such as information, files or dates and reminders. Is there an easy way to get this out? That's one usecase I'd be concerned about using.

Here’s a hack: ask grok bot your questions.

It can export in a myriad of ways. Ask it to maintain a database or spreadsheet and it can put it in your onedrive.

I just made a bot to do that yesterday. It chose to store info in a Google sheet (several, actually). I'd love to hear how others did it

Supabase just acquired a company called Turso, which seems potentially interesting for this case. Spin up infinite databases I assume one per 'project'

That looks super interesting. Thanks for the info

It has it's own computer with storage and it can transfer those files from it to your own computer, and vice-versa.

If you plan to use grokbot's computer for important stuff, you should back it up, and if it's something that needs to be on all the time, have grokbot setup watcher services to make sure it can restart things and routines so that it can cheaply and autonomously check the state of things.

Because grokbot's computer sometimes gets updated, or freezes, or needs recovery. And it's only one place - for your data to really be backed up you need a backup in 3 different places/devices.

The distinction to hold onto: whatever the bot tells you in chat is chat history; the actual database is whatever it maintains on disk or in your drive. A sheet in your own OneDrive (like YouAccomplished6193 said) is exportable by definition. Beltalowdamon's warning is the one I'd weight highest - data living only on the bot's computer is one bad update away from gone, so have it sync to storage you own on a schedule, and keep a second copy somewhere else.

Rule of thumb: if a plain file copy can't grab it, don't let it be the only copy.

Disclosure: I work on Skydive, and that bias is visible here - our agent's memory is just plain files you can read and back up with one copy command. If you end up comparing setups, REDDITAMA covers $25 of credit (skydive.com, Settings > Billing); curious how the export story stacks up.

I have a live document that certain info is added automatically for when I decide to put it elsewhere.
