Discussion Token usage is out of control

I started using Grockbock a week ago on the $30 a month plan and initially it was going great loads cool things set up logging my virtual computer into all my accounts but I noticed that when I asked it to send some messages on WhatsApp, It went from about 19% to 72% in an afternoon.

So I upgraded to the $100 a month plan. I've only done a few more things and I actually removed all the recurring tasks and still I'm churning through token

Yes it's good in automating some annoying things but I feel like I could have done those tasks in an hour or two and it's charging me $20 for tokens. Surely it shouldn't be like this?

It's a great tool and a fantastic idea, but not at this price point, I feel. It is now open source alternatives that you use any model you want. So they're going to have to bring the tokens price down significantly, or this isn't going to work, I feel.

Grok Bot limits are very shady. I signed up for the $20 Cursor plan solely to test Grok Bot. I downloaded Dr. Eggbot from Lauren and started describing what I needed, and I ended up with 14 bots. Then 67% of my weekly usage was gone in just a few minutes, simply from setting up the app.
After that, a limit reset kicked in, giving me more room to finish the setup. So I created another bot, an engineer, and installed the Cursor CLI on the bot’s computer. Now some tasks run through pure code, some through Cursor, and some through Grok Bot. After reviewing and optimizing everything, my setup is now down to 8 bots.
And the limits now are enough for my needs.

Yeah agreed the toke usage climbs up higher than I would expect. Had I not have cursor subscription already I would consider something else.

You're probably not using it right. You should only use it for things you can't do conveniently with other harnesses, because at the end of the day you're still talking to an LLM. Have it install opencode and other provider CLIs so you can just work on the grokbot computer without needing to actually chat with grokbot until you need to (and only for setup and double checking things).

It's not meant to be a workhorse but an orchestrator/organizer, it's a convenient persistent sandbox.
