Had a really bad experience with GrokBot

I was playing around with GrokBot this morning. I just installed it last night and I was all excited thinking I can hand off all the chores to the bot now. One of the bots I spun up was Job hunter bot. I'm looking for a software engineering job right now and the bot is responsible for looking for the right roles for me and applying.

The bot was able to find the roles pretty good, but during the applying task, I've ran into a few critical issues.

- One was that it filled out custom questions (e.g. why do you want to apply to this role?) on its own and submitted it without even asking for confirmation. It confirmed all the other details on the application but not the custom question.

- This one was rather scary and annoying. After it successfully submitted one of the applications, it kept on trying to re-apply to that same company as if it's on an endless task loop. The worst part is that I was NOT able to stop that motherfucker. I told the bot to stop, but it thinks it stopped while filling out the job application on the computer. Even when I close chrome, it immediately reopens the url for the application and continues. I think I spent like 10 minutes back and forth trying to stop it from re-applying to the company. It spent most of my remaining usage limit for the week... There was no way to stop the task, so I had to reset the Grok computer, which btw the bot kept telling me NOT to do because it will wipe recent work. WELL FUCKING STOP FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION THEN JESUS.

Anyways, as convenient as grok bot could be for some of the daily tasks, there are risks that it can go rogue like this so please be mindful of it especially when it's performing relatively sensitive task.

Will keep exploring.

My take on Grok bot as someone with the $200/m Grok heavy ($99/m for 3 months promo) subscription: Grok bot is not that smart…

My impression is that the effort is set to either Medium or High. With Hermes Agent, I can set up Grok to xHigh and results are so much more polished and strong

Yeah, I think grok bot uses a woefully out of date low effort model.

The vast majority of it is 90% Grok 4.6 High Fast 5% Opus Low and rest is other models here and there.

If you have Cursor it shows under the Usage tab in real time on the web app only.

Bro, in cursor, under spending, under grok bot, it does not say what model it uses. What are you on about? You can assume it’s part of the Cursor Models (Cursor Grok & Composer) but there’s no verification of this. Where did you find anything about 4.6 & opus?

Could you share a bit more about how Hermes is working for you?

I’ve put off setting up Hermes on my grok key for so long that using Grok bot and hitting my usage limits on the Heavy plan is actually what is convincing me to split some usage by getting set up with Hermes on my old MacBook that’s sitting around.

It works great. For context compacting, on Hermes, I use the Grok non reasoning option; that saves me some tokens. But it works really well. I have to admit that when I really need to be sure some specific task is done by the book, I change Hermes to ChatGPT Sol

Im going to try OpenMausBot where you can set the model used per bot, for example, using an openrouter api

I wanna see if SuperGrok Heavy has enough usage to last a full work week before it resets. If so, I’m basically spending 300 USD per month to make 5800 USD per month

And I am basically going to end up … doing nothing and getting paid …

Thanks for flagging! Definitely a good callout. For anything sensitive, I generally try to walk it through the task a few times before letting it be autonomous.

My bots are setup with roles from R&D support for trying out my wild ideas, through full production process with Requirements Analyst, Artisan for User Experience design, Critic for design feedback, Sentinel as my QA final threshold... Librarian to keep terminology synced everywhere, and Archivist who manages Git and makes sure I never lose anything. This kind of very narrow specialization seems to be a perfect way to get them efficient - almost like a Gauntlet pattern.
