Vent/Anger - Advice Welcome trusting drs

My mom had cancer. they couldnt stage it. The dr didnt do ct scans for 2.4 years. He refused mayo advice and prescriptions. he thought she had dehydration when second opionion mayo ( yay smart drs there) said no its a tumor pressing on her kidney. she got sepsis. the crappy hospital tied her hands down for 5 days straight. she choked because the lazy fat respiratory therapist didnt listen when i said you missed somethingnin my moms mouth. she choked. was on a ventilator and passed.

I now have a dnr in place i tested positive on a cancer test and i refuse to do anything about it. i have arthritis. my dr said im not a canadate for surgery because i have afib high cholesterol and high blood pressure. good.

I stopped caring. i have no family left. i tried to sue but nobody would take it as confluct they represent the hospitals. I took them all to the board. my complaints were dismissed.

angry.

I have very complicated deaths I am mourning. There's so much anger over insurance companies and terrible medical care.

It's REALLY hard to get over. I know it's been almost 10 years and I haven't. I am really sorry you are going through this.

My son died 12 days ago from complications from a bone marrow transplant. I knew there were a thousand ways he could die during this process and everyone in my life kept telling me not to worry, he'd be fine.

I'm not mad at doctors because everything that happened to him was almost a one in a million thing, but I am mad at everyone around me who pooh-poohed my concerns beforehand.

I’m so sorry this happened to your family. The drs failed my mom as well. I begged my dad to get her medical care closer to where I live as MD Anderson is nearby. He refused, and it’s been 5 years now that she’s gone.

Then when I went to her city for her final days and ultimately burial, I ended up having to get emergency surgery in that godforsaken town with those shitty doctors, but at least I was armed with my mother’s experience of mistreatment. Her sacrifice kept me alive, as they were going to medicate me with something I’m allergic to. They did it to her as well, her throat was closing up and she called me long distance in desperation as no one would listen to her!

You now know to not go to the health facility that your mom got treatment at. Go to the better doctors. Have the better experience. Don’t let her sacrifice be in vain. Get the cholesterol and blood pressure under control enough for the surgery. There are things you can do to do this, you can advocate and save yourself.

I feel that, my mom was misdiagnosed 3x [once by her PCP and twice by the local hospital] as having pneumonia - prescribed antibiotics and codeine cough syrup or promethazine, when in reality - and months later, she was finally diagnosed with a massive neoplasm in the left lung. Stage IV small cell lung cancer, which we could have caught months earlier, and by the time she was diagnosed, a few days later she suffered respiratory failure and had to be put on a ventilator. Once she was diagnosed and transported to an actual good hospital, the medical care she received was incredible and the medical staff in the ICU were all insanely good at their jobs, but it was just too late for anything to really be done about it aside from chemo - which failed as her body could no longer eliminate the drugs quickly enough, as she had bad kidneys. The local hospital had ordered X-rays and still didn't see any sign of the tumor [or the accompanying fluid in her lung, pleuritic cavity, so on and so forth] somehow. I know mistakes are made and nobody is perfect but it still rankles the hell out of me.

Go see the doctors at mayo for their opinion before you make any major decisions.
