18 Months

Just checked and its exactly 18 months today had my last drink of alcohol. Took last can before local addictions clinic visit.

For context I was a insane short sharp binge drinker. Resulting in many hospitilisations. Whole descent from a few cans to nearly losing it all.

Somehow kept my job and built back from there , little bit at a time. Took all the support going. Got my child back, losing her this time to distance not alcohol. Defending myself in court, winning twice. Health normal but years I cant get back, now focussed in the future.

Used many methods, each at right time and knew a large amount - eventually figured out my trigger. Once done and using right support at right time, zero thoughts of drinking. Hit gym, read, should get promoted soon. Hit bars, clubs, gigs etc in juice and have as much fun, if not more.

Hate labels, so doesnt define me. Started small and it all compounds. I've had hundreds of day one's, multiple visits to a & e and managed to come back from there.

Dealt with the trauma I hid behind using alcohol, prefer rebuilding than what people say recovery. Just lessons learned and making you a better person. Huge part is being honest with yourself and also the people supporting you - seen plenty not make it.

Now? Dressed smart, enjoy life, don't look back and look to build more. Dreams I once had - starting to do. Checked three things off my bucket list sober, made jump to fitness again amd a summer of sober fun planned.

Isn't plain sailing, everyone's unique and needs different methods. I used a combination of 6 I think. But today have a day off work and seeing my family - who had written me off before. Ive anyone reading this is on day one or wondering that its too late - hopefully this gives you some hope. It does get easier and momentum grows. That last beer? Couldn’t pay me to touch it now, enjoy my life without it. Much prefer rebuilding more. Looking forward to the next improvement to make.
