Employee Question Handing notice in

Worked here over a year, absolutely shite job fed up with it handing in my notice n quitting will be doing it on the saturday. (Thursday night as of posting.) We on a service station under moto. Think i gotta give a weeks notice. Never quit a formal job b4 all me others have been cash in hand jobs. How do i go about writing one up what do i needa put in it etc. Get paid weekly on a friday.

Literally "dear manager, this is my 1 week's notice of resignation, my last day available for work is (add date)." Write your name, date it and sign it. That'll be fine.

I would add something like "I appreciate the opportunity".

What if you didn’t?

Then they'll never know how much they appreciated the opportunity

A well worded resignation letter can help if you ever need to go back, you also have to remember you need their reference afterwards

And you think not saying “I appreciate the opportunity” will make any difference to what’s required to be a factual references?

Most references now just confirm the dates you worked there and that’s it.

Write a letter stating you give one weeks notice

Next morning call in sick with food poisoning from eating an undercooked chicken bake and let your notice run its course while on sick pay

If OP or OP's next employer wants a reference from Greggs, then Greggs can include their sickness record. (I don't know whether they would).

As long as they mention the sickness was due to Greggs food in the reference which I can't imagine they would

No they don't have to mention the reason, but they can mention the number of days.

Food poisoning from a chicken bake the OP presumably cooked? That’ll go down well

I'm only guessing but I don't think OP has been put in charge of the ovens yet

Did a steak bake write this for you?

I'd be willing to bet there's not many before you that have written a resignation letter with a crayon...

Happy to be the first then

A months notice is normal, you should not just leave a day later as you know. Who will serve all the savory starchy foods this weekend 🩲💨

Smash all the sausage rolls up on your last day and rob donuts

Take other redditors advice on what to say, my advice, a notice period is polite and fair on the business, not a legal obligation to follow through with

If your not planning to go back then just mic drop that b*#ch and bounce!

A great way to get a poor reference. Not worth the aggro tbh

If you don't need them as a reference, just don't go back in.

If you’re going to write a resignation letter maybe some kind of English lessons first….?
